Big E Cancellation

If the trip this weekend wouldn't have been cancelled I would have a limit of YF's in the box, probably snapped a rod, drank a few margarita's and made some new friends. I would be a happy fisherman. Instead I feel like doing what this song below says.

Weather doesn't look good this weekend either.
Look at the offshore weather forecast. They have 5-10 knots everyday until Thursday and start blow from Thursday night right in time. :)
I have to look around an offshore boat here for a backup plan in case the Big E cancels again. :)
MrBill,

You know you would have blown a gasket though! The second and third time they gaffed your YFT in the shoulders instead of the head you would have choked somebody! LOL!

There is always next time! Glad we got to meet you at Roy's.

Tom
Mrbill, I just heard from a little fly on the wall that you had a huge bon fire going on Friday night. I sure hope you were smart enough to grill those steaks before burning four dozen cotton t-shirts. I bet you stunk up the neighborhood.

Maybe with the choppy seas those deckhand's would have done a couple of head sticks. Hope you saved one t-shirt. It would be funny as chit to slip one over the next tuna and take a pic of it.

I still can't get Candy out of my head. I've dreamed of her every night since her performance. If you don't have a t-shirt left, I know where we could get one.

i sure hope you guys didn't leave your manhood all over that pretty milk crate...lol.....rick

Give me a little credit. I'm not that stupid. Cotton does stink. At first I made the mistake of tossing about 4 of the T-Shirts in the pit at one time folded up. That damn near put out the fire. I got smart and single feed them after crumbing them into a ball. It did smell. It said on the tag that they were 100% cotton, but I think not. I smelled polyester.

You better keep Candy in your dreams and not turn it into real life. Thinking with the wrong head can cause problems. Your lucky you found a woman that can tolerate you!!!!!!!!!!
Candy better remain a lap dancer, or else I'll lose a fishing partner to a nasty divorce. That's why we have eyes. Better to look and not touch. I hope you don't talk in your sleep while dreaming. Those questions the next morning are hard to answer from the wife.
MrBill,
Can you bring 650 lbs ice to the Big E on Sunday ? :)
The Big E might go as weather turns better this weekend.
If I go, I intend not to bring any spinning gears as I purchased a new weapon for the trip.
If there are few guys to throw poppers, I will join them.
If there are too many popping fishermen, I'll enjoy jigging or do some chunking. :)

All right....

I just gotta ask. What is the new weapon?

Take a look at the Tuna Hunters too. They are quality poppers.

The new weapon is going to be shown on the boat. :)
I like to test the Tuna Hunter too. Is there any tackle store which carries Tuna Hunter on the way down to the boat from Houston ?

Fair enough. I'll wait to see the weapon.

I am kinda like you. I do not live in the Texas area. So.. I can not inform you where to pickup the Tuna Hunters locally.
I do know that Islander Custom Tackle in Galveston is the internet place to shop.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ICE 101

The ice is still in my truck. The funny thing is that there is still about half left. I haven't had time to dump it yet. Here are some facts about coolers. Igloo sells two types of coolers. They now market at Sam's and Costco a 120 to 150 Qt "5" day coolers. These have the built in plastic handle. They sell for around 75 bucks. I have no idea why they call it a 5 day cooler. Maybe in Canada or Alaska. But down here in Texas in the middle of the summer it is a 1 1/2 day cooler.

They also sell the more expensive marine coolers. Mainly the 128 and 162 quart. These are the ones with the rope handles. They run 229 and 269 bucks. They are almost never on sale. They don't give a day rating on these coolers. The 162 has a nice built in double skid on the bottom. You can get 3 1/2 days out of these coolers in the Texas summer heat.

Is the marine 162 worth the extra money? Yes, At least for me. If you store the cheap coolers in the shade or in air conditioning, you might get 4 days before you have nothing but cold water.

The ice still sitting in my truck was loaded into 5 of the marine grade coolers. It's been cool at night (58 degrees) and the high has been about 80 degrees.
I still have at least 50% ice after loading them up last Wednesday evening. That's exactly 5 days. I also have been driving around. That slopping around is like being on a boat. It melts ice faster. The truck also has been sitting in the sun during the day hours. If I had loaded the ice in the cheaper "5" day coolers I would have 100% cool water right now.

I could go on and on about ice and coolers. I only have about 20 of the large sizes. That's nothing. I have friends with two to three times what I have. One friend has an ice machine with a 3500 pound bin. He has two 1200 pound a day heads over the bin. That's 2400 pounds in 24 hours. I can only produce 350 pounds a day. My bin is only 650 pounds. I like the reverse osmosis system. It gives you super clear clean drinking ice. No bad ice, no hangover.

You not talking about that 10' Shimano surf you mention on Noreast. I predict after one good sized YFT we'll see it on a buy-n-sell board :)
Tiralejo caught my eye at Roy's! a Genuine hook and hand special!!

I wanted to keep it quiet until I use it because I am afraid of bad luck if I let it know before the trip. :)
10' Shimano Tiralejo surf rod.
I think I can cast with the casting rod as far as any other guys who use short spinning rods on the boat. :) No need for spinning gear.
I don't worry about breaking the rod as not many rods are safe on my hand anyway.:) If broken, I can get a new one from Shimano as the rod has a life time warranty and I always can use it for surf fishing.
Surf fishing on a party boat. Isn't it great ?
I hope that the weather works out for you ksong....if you get to go....we, (the Corpus Christi tunaheads), are thinking of driving up there just to check out the catch. If you do go....Good Luck!
ksong,

you can usually get the tuna hunters at the dock. Capt Elliotts carries a limited stock of the bare necesities.
The Big E trip looks like a GO. :)

Thanks for the information.

STx Fisherman,
You can count on me to catch blackfin tuna as I am going to spend mostly on casting jigs. :)

Randy of the Anglers Proshop sent me a new Smith WRC-50Atlantis jigging rod for field test. The rod is a beauty. Though the rod is super light, it seems to have more backbone than my Calstar 700 XH. I can't wait to test the rod on the trip.

Ksong,
Every thing I have ordered from Randy has been first class. I'm sure this Smith jigging rod will be fantastic. I was surprised at the smith rings I got the other day from Randy. They appear to be better than the owner rings. Being a full time jigger, you should get one of his jig rolls. It holds those extra long jigs with ease.

How did an American name like "Smith" end up making some of the best jigs, rods and rings in Japan?
