Recently had BarBar Custom build this rod for me. It's a 60-100 Super Seeker with Aftco WO Bigfoot rollers and detachable aluminum straight butt. Seemed like a heck of a bargain at $349. I'm coupling it up with a 50 Avet SDS that I've changed out the high gearing to 4:1. It'll get line back fast. It's spooled up with 130 JB and 80 fluoro on top. This'll be my chunking set up in Venice in a couple of weeks.
However, I've never fished the rod and I thought I'd try a couple lifts with it. The gospel according to MrBill as it were, and it makes good sense. The first good fish isn't the place to check a new rod out. Threw some tackle in a bag and 30lbs was too easy. Here's a photo of the bag at 44.5 lbs.

I fished with Ron (bar bar tackle) on the TEXAS TUNA TRIP in nov. (see report la pesca 80hr. ) he brought several new rods to try. After seeing his product I can tell you they are a bargain for such high quality and customizing! He had a acid wrap jigging rod that was awesome, along with an exellent popping rod that put the wood to a 96lb. yellow fin. besides his workmanship , a hell of a nice guy that loves to talk rods and fishing.

He's also building me an acid wrap Super Seeker jigging rod, 6' in length, on a 30-80 SS blank. It'll have an ALPS triangular reel seat and wrapped to match this roller rod. I'm hoping to get it before a trip Jan 18-20.

Gimmedeal,

That is one fine lookig rod, the detail is great along with the right bend for the fish you are after. Good luck hope it raises some fish for you. Its great going somewhere and using your own gear on a charter. You feel much better knowing what your fishing with and more appreciative after you have a slob on the deck

Congrats and Merry Christmas to you all

Gman,
I'll wear a small Smitty's day plate all the time and intend to fight fish on it until I'm convinced a harness is in order. I've been doing some working out in order to get this 57 year old body in shape to manhandle tuna and I'm readier than I've been in recent years. That said, I'll have a Smitty Spider harness and large long range plate nearby for the grande fish. I've got 2 trips scheduled in January and it's me or the tuna.

I've been known to put the rod butt below the boys to fight a fish. Think others have done too it and that's why gimbal plates exist.
Have a Merry Christmas Gman. Come down and fish with us next year.

Sent the pic of the lift and details to Ron at BarBar and he got a laugh out of it. Said it looked like I had bent the creaks out of it. He sent the lift to Seeker and said they didn't have much of a sense of humor. They replied that they recommend no more than lifts of 30% of the rods rating. HA! Guess I'm lucky I didn't snap it, but it seemed to handle it without protest. The Super Seeker is a heck of a blank. They'd (Seeker) probably really pass a stone if they saw MrBill's XXX loaded to 65lbs.
You'd have thought they'd have done this stuff themselves in testing. 10 more days and we're on the road. Venice baby! Lump chunkin'

Fred I'm looking forward to breaking in my bar bar with my avet 30w. Also have the jigger. It will be coming with the ocea jigger attached. I believe in heavy drag so it looks like these rods should hold up nice.

Tass,
Heavy on the let's break em in. Ron's shipping my jigger today. He acid wrapped mine so we can tell em apart. Mine will be going w the Ocea Jigger also. Venice in January is not the place to chance on light gear.
We're leavin in 8 days, fishing in 9.
