Mr. Bill, i thought you were a shimano man, whats wrong with your gold shimanos, are they not cutting it, or do you just want a new toy?

I want a new toy. I'm just investigating other options. But, the Tiagra's have to good for me over the years. I'm not going to switch midstream. They are the workhorse of offshore fishing. Day in and day out, they just keep working without any maintenance besides wiping down with corrosion X. If fact, I've never had a single problem with a Tiagra. I'm having a new rod built and thought I needed another reel. Looking at my records, I think I have 2 -50WLRSA's still new in the box somewhere. I just have to find them.

I still think the accurate's are the best, but they need more attention. I've got a friend that has about a dozen accurate twin drags, and like he says,
"If you can afford them new, you can afford to send them in for service every year."

I own two tiagras 50wlrs that i bought from a charter captain, for swordin or trolling. they are rashed to hell but a freakin crankin machine. They were well maintained are in good internal shape. I am not a tackle ho as i prefer to spend my limited amout of fishing money on fuel, bait, ice AND GET ON THE WATER, as opposed to buying 7 reels that i might use on the BIg E. That is not a shot at anyone just the way i feel.I dont need the newest and greatest that will sit in the closet, after all i live in fort worth not Port a.

I have been fortunate enough to meet several guys with vessels that ask to me to crew with them, I was asked back because i work hard, cut chum, clean boats, have a LITTLE( i always want to learn more from anyone with experience) knowledge and i am more than willing to contribute for fuel, bait, ice without being asked to.

First off, I've never been on the Big E. In fact, I've only been on one party boat in twenty years. It's not my thing. I do have a trip planned on the Big E sometime in the spring. I only signed up because I want to go out on the boat just to see how it handles the water.

I probably fish offshore about 35 days a year. I own a boat and go out with other people on their boats. I also leave the country 2 to 3 times a year to fish. Trust me, I spend plenty of money on fuel, bait, boat maintenance, and traveling to and from fishing grounds. I'm also very hard on tackle but like to have enough so I don't run out when I need it.

no shot at you bro or anyone else on here. i just dont understand the process of buying 6 high end reels to fish 2 days a year.
As a friend once told me you can catch 99% of the stuff out there on a good ole penn 113.

www.cabbagekeyrodandreel.com is a good place to keep an eye out for them. He can sell them loaded with line. Don Savage can probably match them, and he is a member of this board. I would personally go with Don if he would match them (including line). If he will, hint hint- I will be sending him an order for a silver AVET 50 SDS in one month.

Hey Jared- Nobody, I mean nobody, loves fishing and being at sea more than me! Guaranteed!

But when I get into a hobby or something interests me, part of what keeps me attached to it is the minutea which terminal gear, rods, reels, lures etc. are a fun part.

I agree though that if I had to choose between less rigs and more fishing, I'd take being on a boat every time!

Tom and Jared:

Your points are both well-taken. Like a co-worker of mine said at a meeting a few years ago, when he was being pelted by two opposite opinions from two very high-level managers, "I feel very strongly both ways." On the one hand, I'm like you Tom, in that I really love good equipment for it's own sake. On the other hand, I have lately found myself holding my Calstar 760H with the ATD 50W, sitting in front of the TV in my rocker/recliner, while watching celebrity fishermen in Minnisota, (guys who have basically the same personality as cornstalks, but without all the charisma) pulling 12 inch walleyes out of holes in the ice, while slapping each other on the back of the overalls, and yelling: "That's a pretty good walleye, there, buddy, by golly, I betcha!"

Maybe I should go fishing, but I think I'll have that ATD 50W anodized with gang grafitti first.:)

Hope noone here is from Minnisota. If so, I was only kidding--Once an ice hole, always an ice hole.

It's interesting how this thread starts out about a fishing reel and now were discussing how a polar bear takes a piss. You might not have to kick the bear into the hole. Just have this beauty queen below show up and he'll jump in.

Where do you guys find these pictures. LOL
