Im considerind purchasing an Avet HX to use for tuna jigging. Is this reel a little on the light side, or is it good for the application? Any input from guys who have used the reel would be appreciated, Fred

i have done rods for guys using these.

for the most part when i get feedback about the reels.
it is positive, about 80% of the guy like them.

some have their problems.
but you find that in all reels.

i have only actually used this reel 1 time.
i had no problems with it.

personally i like a star drag. for what i do

I have 2 Avet HX they work great for tuna. I bought them when they first came out and they have performed. Upgraded them with the magnets and they cast fine as well.

I have 6 Avets and the HX, which I've had for 3 years, is my favorite. If I were buying today, I'd definitely go for the Raptor dual drag model with their MC cast control. I've got 50# topshot which works great for tuna up to about 150# or wahoo jigging.

I sold my LX and MXL so I could buy the HX raptor for next season. It has the line capacity and more than enough drag to handle tuna upto 300 pounds. The cast feature may mean sacrificing a little distance casting, but I believe it will be worth it since bird's nests will be essentially eliminated. I can't wait to build a rod for the bad boy as well.
