I managed to catch some fish other than jacks on slow pitch this week on a overnight head boat trip. I caught several 4 or 5 lb. red snapper, a vermillion snapper, a scamp grouper and a cuda. We were anchored in 120-175 feet of water and I used a 300g JW-141 jig to catch my fish. The vermillion snapper was about the same size as the jig and the scamp was just a little longer than the jig but they weren't jacks and were caught on slow pitch!!! Yes, small fish eat big jigs. I have proof of it!!! I had a great time jigging and hopefully I'll get better and bigger catches going forward.

I also got cutoff by a cuda or king. About $40 worth of jig, assist hooks, etc. gone in an instant. As the saying goes, "you pay to play"...

$40 lost is a good day! you can lose a few hundred pretty quick.

I've read that more than once. It's similar to playing poker in this regard, I guess.
