I have a 50ah LiFepo4 and would not want to carry it around all day. If you're stationary for most of the time it won't be a problem, but repositioning during a fight might be slightly more difficult. I also have a 20ah which I primarily use for electronics (kayak), rigged in a dry box, and would feel comfortable carrying it for extended sessions. If it were me I would opt for two 20ah LiFepo4 batteries over a single 50ah, unless you're stationary. I end up sitting on a kayak for 8 hours, so 50ah works well for me.View attachment 125894

Think it’s narrowed down to this company. M-Tech has great reviews and customers are saying a longer life between charges than my other choice Ionic. Although I like the Bluetooth battery check capabilities from the ionic app, longer life is the goal.
Now the decision is one 45Ah or two 20Ah so I’ll always have one on charge and the smaller size makes it easier to store in a waterproof box.

I have a pair of tanacom 750s and done a banax 500 for a buddy that run on 12v dewalt batteries. Work great for jigging and bottom fishing 300’ and under. 800’ and few lbs of lead melted some cheap Amazon batteries. Usually use 2 sometimes 3, 3Ah batteries in a day. But quick and easy to swap.Has anyone ever used powertool batteries
Shoot me a message if you give it a try. I’ll point you in the direction where I sourced the parts, and some things I changed for cleaner install. I’m on model 4.0 or so now. Started with zip ties and but connectors. LolGreat idea Bird! I have a bunch of batteries and chargers laying around. I’ll see if I can figure out something.

Any interest in building the same reel with Milwaukee m18 capability?Shoot me a message if you give it a try. I’ll point you in the direction where I sourced the parts, and some things I changed for cleaner install. I’m on model 4.0 or so now. Started with zip ties and but connectors. Lol
That is what I was thinking about but I'm not sure if any reels go up to 18v and if the extra weight is worth itAny interest in building the same reel with Milwaukee m18 capability?
I can see some load tests from my deck in the future. All the reading I’ve been doing say a fuse of 20a or 30a is fine. I feel that’s way over what I would want it to trip at.Benny the factory packs its internal, but if I was to make a power supply, I'd probably fuse at 2.5 amp to start with. Having a load on rod would be big help, then if fuse blows, try 3a etc. you want the lowest rated fuse at full load.
Good point. I picked up some m12 impacts for next building season and those batteries would be cool for clipping in to the butt of the rod. If you build it, i will hand you cash. That is what I was thinking about but I'm not sure if any reels go up to 18v and if the extra weight is worth it
Perfect! Thanks Joe, So if I don’t hear anything when everything is delivered I’m starting the build. If I need to install a fuse I’ll do it later.Benny,
I don't use a fuse with mine.
Benny, I checked the boat reel receptacles, and the breakers 15A and they have never tripped with 2 receptacles to a breaker.Haven’t heard anything from Shimano via phone and email. Does anyone use external lithium batteries with their Elec reels without fuses. Thinking of making the battery box without a fuse then adding it in if needed. I just hate leaving on hold.

Thanks Kim! That definitely gives me an idea of what fuse size will work. So, I’m sure a 10a would be fine or maybe the 7a that came with the fuse holder.Benny, I checked the boat reel receptacles, and the breakers 15A and they have never tripped with 2 receptacles to a breaker.
