What's the biggest difference between these reels? I'm thinking about picking one up for what seems like a good price (300.00) and wondering if one would be preferable. Thinking bluefin up here in new england and maybe grouper/marlin etc in the bahamas....any thoughts?

probably 60 or 80 lb jerry brown....looking at capacity numbers, maybe the 870 would be fine?

THe 665N has the same capacity as the 870 the differance is the 665N has a lower hi gear ratio which makes the world of differance sometimes. For bluefin either 665 will work. If your jigging id go for the 665n if baitfishing 665 spool either one with Jerry 80 hollow and your good to go.

I hear these 'older' models dont hold up to the increased drag pressures used when fished with spectra. Originally designed for fishing mono, with lighter drags.

The older models have some issues with the shifting gears - I sent all my older Accurate back to Accurate & they fix the issue
IMO get the new model BX2

That's what I was thinking.....its funny with these new age conventional reels. 2 years ago, the accurate boss was the untouchable gold standard and "the only one with sufficient drag". Now, it is obsolete and people are saying...don't spend the money on it because it doesn't hold up. It's an interesting phenomenon to watch this part of the industry explode.

Soon, people will be buying some other spinning reel because the stella is "insufficient". I suspect those new reels will be about $1800.00 nd I'll be buying stellas for 400.....slaying fish just the same.

Anyone use either the 870 or 665 for tuna jigging with braid? I have a rod that I use for jigging AJ's now (built for tuna, but havent had the chance yet). The reel I have doesnt have the capacity for tuna. The deal on these Accurates is tough to pass up.

Anybody have one of these they use regularly for tuna?

I have 870n and 665n that I use for jigging I've even bait fished with the 665n, never an issue with them but no fish yet over 100lb on either one. I love how small the 870n is, very compact and light weight.
