I am looking to purchase a ATD 50 but cannot decide on the topless or standard model. I own a ATD 80 and tend to rest my line hand on the support bracket..........Am i missing something by not getting the topless other than structural integrity of the reel!

the topless atd are extremely strong. there is no amount of drag pressure that could cause the frame to torque, twist, etc. topless has become popular with live bait stand up style of fishing for palming the spool, line management and yes, even casting a sardine with a 50-size reel.

Thanks for the reply!...was thinking the subject was already covered.

Could you seen any reason not to go with the topless in the 50 size and smaller?

if a cow hits your bait you could loose a finger(s) if you're not paying attention ;)
