When they get stuck, you can try spraying the joint with a can of compressed air upside down and it should come apart. Sometimes a rod will get stuck to the point where it won’t come apart no matter what. My friend gave me a phenix travel rod that became stuck together and he tried to take it apart with brute force and ripped like three guides off the rod. After not being able to get it apart he gave it to me and I tried every trick in the book to no avail. I eventually took the rod to a local rod building company to see what they could do and they too were unable to get it apart. I had them just fix the broken guides and wrap and finish the stuck ferrule just in case. Always remember to lube the ferrules on your rods to avoid problems.

One thing I have found to stop some of the problems is to drill a small hole in the butt cap or gimble. This removes the lock from an airtight connection. It helps a bunch.

I have a two piece rod i can't take apart. Tried every trick (but not compressed air) and used a lot of force - and the two pieces remain well & truly stuck together. Interestingly, I think that what's made the problem so bad, so permanent, is that I did apply ferrule wax to the joint.
I think the joint should be kept clean, as clean as possible, and dry.

I just bought a brand new grappler popping rod and it is stuck together, I'm sending it back because no matter what I did that thing wasn't coming back apart. will have to remember these for the future
Just unstuck my grappler. Was super stuck. Tried all the YouTube remedies. Nada.
Then I sprayed a little wd 40in the joint let it sit for 10. Then I put duct tape on my rod where I could grip it with a piece of sandpaper and not mess my rod up. One half pull and came out like butter baby

I’m telling u wd-40 a piece of duct tape on rod to protect from sandpaper used to grip. Works like a charm.

From my experience with stuck rods, it seems to happen when you place your rod down. Every time you put your rod down letting the butt hit the floor freely it pushes the top section in further. When you put your rod in a holder or stand your rod on the floor place it do not let it fall freely. Also applying ferrule wax or chapstick helps greatly before putting your rod together. I hate when I see guys put their rod top in the bottom then give the butt a few taps on the floor. That is not a good practice if you don’t want a one piece rod or a cracked ferrule.
