Left Cape Cod on Black Rose Charters with Sami (Anglers Pro Shop) and Jose, left the dock around 6am into clam but some what foggy conditions, unlike previous trips there was very little action. No fish busting the surface only an occassional rolling fish or two. They definately werent feeding. My hat goes off to Captain Rich who couldnt have covered more ground even if he flew us in a plane that man didnt stop all day. We had one real opportunity all day and we casted perfectly into the school pod but no takers.

Finally on the way home, all of us resting, Captain Rich though he saw something so I grabbed my new popping set up and made cast into a small boil when I got tight on my first bluefin on a surface lure. Within 10 minutes I had him boatside with a perfectly placed gaffshot in the head when the unimaginable happenned ...as the fish was comming over the side, the fishes head broke apart and the fish ended up back in the water and screaming off line.

You would think the fish would be dead but he was just pissed off. Meanwhile I was unprepared for the cast so I had no belt on and the rod was in my balzzz ha ha I didnt want to be the guy with the fish story about the one that got away so I took my time with lighter drag until he was on the deck. I know Sami, it took longer than expected LOL but I didnt bust him off which is what mattered to me the most yesterday

He taped out at 50" and 75lbs. The fish was fat. I used my stella 10000 hg and a brand spanking new zenaq fooketo FC83-5 popping rod. If you havent been to Randys yet they have some awesome popper gear. The fish was caught on a sinking baby runboh lure.

A big thanks again to Sami I really enjoyed our day and learned alot from you, yesterday. Jose your awesome speak to you soon

PLEASE email me the pictures and post them when Randy returns. I only have this one

Glenn, glad you finally got a bft on poppers.
I like to go up to Cape Cod Bay for popping tuna one more time before I go to Puerto Vallarta for jigging and popping in Oct, 20 -22.
I went overnight trip to Wilmington Canyon yesterday, but I was rewarded with one one 70 lbs yellowfin on jigs though I jigged non-stop for 10 hours. :(
It was frustrating I didn't get any bite while bait fishermen had constant action. We even got a small sword on bait which was released.
I had about 9 weired small fish like barracuda or lancefish on my tuna jigs.

thanks Kil,

luckily it came on my second trip as teh fish have been scarce. Im taking Anthony up in a week so he can try as well. Those fish you caught on the jig are scary looking. Boy that jig is very metalic in the picture no wonder they like it so much. Great pictures

Hi Glen

Congrtulations, it feels good to get that first fish.

I did not do so well on Friday, fish acted very strange. They were not
surfacing like other trips. I had two boils behind my stickbait but no hookups.

This whole popping thing is new to me, Ive jigged them, trolled them Ive even caught one on a snickers bar behind a troller but Ive never caught one on a surface lure. Just glad we got it in the boat, thought for sure once he fel out of the boat and into the blue water he was gone forever

The fish were acting that way as well for us, just pushing water we only saw two real pods of more than 3 fish. Im hoping they start feeding again I want to take another trip up there on the 15th with my son

which lure were you using? Thanks, maybe we will get to fish togther soon

John,

how do you like bothe the wei world and the smith popping special. I really enjoyed the zenaq I bought. Im looking to get the wei world for another jig rod

Hi Glenn,

I love both rods, the wei world is amazing the power that rod has
is incredible and light as a feather you can jig all day with it.
Smith popping stick is awesome its light and powerfull and able to handle
big fish even when thay run under the boat. I like the Zenaq, i have casted
Sami's but its a little heavy for me. I like to cast all day without taking a
break. I think you would love both rod's.
