8/6-8/7
Our first trip back was a pretty good one overall. The daytime fishing made the trip, while the night time fishing was a little on the slower side.
We did most of the bottom fishing in 170 ft of water and did pretty good on Beeliners and had a few AJs and Scamps mixed in and even released a Sail. I was planning on hitting another reef area after that stop but came across a nice weed line that we caught some decent Dorado on, there were tons of them there but they were a little finicky. We left the weed line heading offshore and came across a dragging shrimper in 300 ft and made a quick drift off of it. I saw a few Blackfin but they were out numbered 1-100 by Bonita so we saved some for chunk bait. For our last stop of the day we drifted a sea mount in 600 ft where we landed a handful of Barrels, YellowEdge, a Golden Tile and a few Queens, including 2 Queens that are bigger than the current state record.
Tuna fishing unfortunately was not nearly as exciting as the daytime was. We ground on them all night and fished a total of 5 different rigs. We ended up with close to an average number of BFT and they were mostly jumbos but the YFT just weren't there for us in the numbers that we would like to see.
Trip Totals....
5 YFT
125 BFT
8 AJ
275 Beeliners
4 Scamp
2 YellowEdge
1 Mangrove
3 Barrel Fish
5 Queen Snapper
19 Dorado
18 King Fish
1 GoldenTile
1 Sailfish (Released)

Bottom fishing on the way out was decent. Fished natural bottom, started in 160 ft and ended in 300 ish. The bite was pretty good for the first few minutes of each stop but they shut off after that. Our day ended with a decent catch of Beeliners and a handful of Jacks.
Tuna fishing was much better this trip than it was last week. We had a fairly steady Yellowfin bite for most of the night and the Blackfin pretty much jumped in the boat. Our average size on the yellows was surprisingly good for August, they averaged 50-60 lbs.
Trip totals.....
32 YFT
354 BFT
280 Beeliners
4 AmberJack
2 AlmacoJack
10 Scamps
Here we go again. The fish are hung once inside the jetty's and are still cold when handed out. It's partly advertisement and it makes it much easier to hand the fish out. No it doesn't reduce the quality of the fish.
Butterfish are in the GOM and all the way down
to the Yucatan Pennisula in Mexico,
Cancun - Cozumel area and further south than that.
In the NE, it is the standard bait for YFT.
Usually used whole, the hook is thread through
the mouth and gills, then carefully buried in the body,
with only the hook point showing.
Some use "mouse trap rig" where there is a short trace of
wire attached to the hook, and all is hidden in the body.
Some will use small pieces of foam peanuts to offset the additional
weight to make a more natural presentation.
Butters are chunked up and used in the chum line,
sometimes bunker is added, or used as a watery chum.

We had a solid trip but earlier in the week I did not think this trip would sail, the early forecast looked pretty bad with North winds of 20 knots. As the trip got closer the forecast improved. Unfortunately the forecast that was predicted early on would end up being accurate after all. We got beat up coming home.
Bottom fishing was good but we had to fish a bunch of spots. On one of them we had the AJs going pretty good until flipper showed up and ruined the party.
Tuna fishing was really good early. We caught 3/4 of our YFT before 11pm. That's around the time that the NE wind kicked up and it seemed to hurt the bite. We fished two more rigs after that and caught a handful more yellows but never really got them going again. Around sunrise the wind swapped more out of the North and made for a bumpy ride home and caused us to be later than normal.
Most YFT came off Halcos but a few came off chunks.
Totals...
26 YFT
193 BFT
16 AmberJack
9 AlmacoJack
1 Dorado
10 Scamp
1 YellowEdge
1 SandTile
4 BlackJack

Super nice. I want to go again early 2021. When do you guys expect the repower to be done and when will you release the 2021 schedule so we can slip in early?
We got in today off an awesome 30 hour. It was non stop action all night with only one small lull just before moon set. I saw fish caught on Halcos, Yummees, Frenzy's and live flyers. I don't think we caught any on chunks. That was one of the most action packed nights we have seen. We even had to get a second chill box going so we could keep up with the pace. By the end of the night we were doing quite a bit of catch and release on BFT.
Totals..
55 YFT
402 BFT
251 Beeliners
6 AmberJack
9 AlmacoJack
4 Scamp
1 Yellowmouth
