well.. i will try to be nice..... I feel sorry for the captains and crew that the owners are pricing the boat out of the market. there are several other boats (i guess "not" as fancy since they dont have plasma screen tvs) that are operating on half the price per person.
to the captains and crew- I am sorry.
to the owners who set the price point- you can kissss my hairy white ass!

you cannot compare any of the comforts on the port a boats to the big e, period. its a nicer platform, MUCH faster, cleaner, more stable, bigger/better fish boxes and livewell, shower (albeit i didnt use it)...period. i'm not putting down the port a boats, but facts are facts. a boat that goes 15 knots cannot do the same trips or get you as much fishing time as one that goes 25 knots. im not trying to start an argument, but people (including me) just need to know not to expect the same thing if they choose another operation on the texas coast.

I don't want to fire this back up either, but in 500+ posts, what I see is
that the majority don't need the fluff. For the others that want more, there is the Big E. Personally, This is what I want on a multi-day tuna trip:
a head
a coffee pot
a microwave
a bunk for storage & napping
an experienced captain & crew
a safe boat.
That's all we had BEFORE the big E, and pleny of anglers caught plenty of big tuna in all the same spots. never once back then did I hear someone say
"boy I wish this boat had a mini-theater" or "man this boat would be so much better if we had a galley & chef."
I'm not knocking the Big E, it truly is the finest long-range boat I've ever been on, and yes, watching the sonar on the plasma while dropping jigs is definately a bonus, But I'm there for hardcore fishing, not creature comforts.
I can lay on my own couch and enjoy that. for a lot less $$
As Bret said, it is hard to beat the Big E's comfort, speed and fishing range.
I fished on 40 hour trip out of Port Arnasas and it is not bad at all with light crowd.
I love to go back to the Big E as I had fun on the Big E last year, but I don't think I can make the trip with the price they suggest as I have much better options as I have to fly anyway.
I understand their position to raise their prices so high due to maintenance cost.
Everyone wants to make profit by running a business, but it is also business to minimize losses. I think they lose more money not running the boat as there are enormous fixed cost. It could be a wiser dicision to run the boat at price which can attract fishermen and sail as scheduled.
well they lost my business so far. I scheduled a june trip on the Perparda Rey out of freeport (54 ft bertram), 54 hrs, 4000.00 takes six anglers. so will be right at a grand- not much cheaper- but we make the game plan, smaller group , (it also has a flat screen), same speed or faster,
whats not to like-

A head? Who needs a head? #1 pee off the side, #2 use the coffee pot. That should shave a few bucks off the trip
The Big E is a great boat, no argument there. Sorry to all those that never got a chance to fish her, but hopefully the price comes down to a point that everyone can experience it at least once.

UE-1 do you have any updates or replies? You guys realize that when you google Big-E or UE, this forum is in the top results. Your potential customers get to read these posts. When Ksong states you are over priced, something is wrong. This guy travels the globe to fish, but now Big-E and Texas are off the list. He is much respected here on 360tuna. Everyone of us thinks this boat is tops, but only a selected few with deep pockets or plain ignorance are sticking up for your high prices. Some guys are going to go once a year, like this July trip buzzing around. What about after that?
