OTI Rods Breaking

A few post have recently come up talking about good fishing trips. On these post i've read about some oti rods breaking, most of which are breaking at the tip, is this due to blank failures, rod misuse or is this normal, because i havent heard of rods just breaking unless they were used improperly.

Just curious as to know the reason behind these breaks.

As far as I know, it was not the rod, but the first guide damaged.

Rich's rod 'broke' on our trip to NC earlier this month. The blank itself did not break, the epoxy around the first guide cracked and the guide twisted.

I have not heard of the blanks breaking.

From other section:

"There were several broken OTI rods
a 600 gram jigging rod broke right next to me above the first guide Pjun was jigging his jig got slammed the rod bowed and crack, See Ya game over.
Bellups managed to brake the other one around the same area not sure what happened there all he said was ''it was big''"

Also I spooke to a guy the other day that broke his 600 gram rod a couple of weeks ago. Blank cracked with a Avet JX on it so it could not have been due to max drag.

Having just bought a 600 gram I'm wondering if there is a defect?

The 600gm I saw brake, broke right under the first guide.
I'll have to say my 7' 50lb OTI that I loaned to Snappergeorge held up like a champ he definetly put some heat on the fish with it, and my 7'6'' 80lb OTI also performed great.

Thanks for the rod again TJ, I appreciate it. OTI products and warranty are great.

mitch, the rods are great. I don't think you will regret purchasing one. You can't get more for the price.

TJ, just as clarification, i want you to know in no way was i trying to degrade your products i think they are very well made and have yet to hear of a bad review. it seems tro me as if your products are doing well and rightfully so, your warranty is superb that you replace the rods, and everyone who has bought them has praised them. sorry if you felt that i was product bashing i was just curios to what was going on if ity was just the guide or the actual blank malfunctioning.
