Haha challenging in the sense that theyre harder to actually entice a bite on the jig. I tried a few jigs, and got some jigs in the gold red color from recommendations by another on this site. But most of my bites came on the blue or mariana color. THe longer new hookers in the 260 gram worked extremely well for me personally. But they AJs did not discriminate and hit a lot of the other jigs thrown out |

Brian, I think the Philly contingent held up their end very well on this trip! But I'll tell you, you've got to be physically prepared for it. Most of us just never get a chance at this kind of offshore fishing! Think of a crazy bluefish bite, except the fish average 30-40 lbs. with the very real chance that the next one is over 100! And they're incredibly strong. Oh, and the bite lasts all day!

From the pics, I can tell that the Philly crew did VERY well Tony You guys even got that Mahi on a jig if I'm not mistaken! I'm hoping that the last 6 years of lifting my car's 175lbs transmission on and off will help with the physical aspect of this type of fishing. Although I'm not like your son, but I used to bench 225 anywhere for 10-15 reps when I was in shape so it might be time to hit up the weights again Quote:

it was just insane the bite, after a while I couldn't put down my rod. I would hook a fish land it and within seconds just drop it back down. I used a 400g jig all day as well. I couldn't stop it was addictive. My shoulders and arm turned numb and all I cared about was the next fish
Tony and Bret were animals no doubt and did very very well |

Do lots of curls! And I gotta figure out something else for my back. Lord, it gets tired. Thank God for the support belt! Then again, Bret's back was sore too! ![]() |

Glenn's right. As tired as you get, you just can't stop. I did cast a bit, even hooked a blackfin which came unbottoned, but had to go back to the AJ's. You KNEW you'd hook up on the next drop, it was just a question of size. And thanks for the kind words, Glenn. But I think we'll have bow to you, my friend. You got one hell of a motor! ![]() |
