Grescobia: I dont know you, my friend, but am looking forward to meeting you. But from what I hear, the fish are caught whereever you happen to be.

I'm happy to see I'm not the only guy that has a tossing overboard problem.

The only way to get the line under a anchor rope that is that low is to tie off the reel with a 1/4" rope through the lugs or tie it off above the reel seat above the reel. Send the rod and reel free holding onto the 1/4" rope. Once the rod and reel is visible on the other side, use a gaff to retrieve your outfit. It will take two people that are on the ball. For damn sure, loosen the drag to around 10 pounds while doing your transfer.

That's how my football team won the championship only the anchor line was a field judge, TOUCHDOWN!!! TEAMWORK!!

On the rod that went overboard I was going to cast when someone bumped me and hit my elbow (funnybone) there was nothing I could do but watch the rod sail off into the deepblue. One fellow said he had never seen a rod get casted as far as that one did. Brand new outfit and had never been used before. If that was the worst thing that had happened to me I consider myself one lucky fellow. Snagged, that happen along time ago and I am suprised you still remember. Your memory is still intact. Uncle Russ I am looking forward to meeting you also .I certainly enjoy all your postas you keep people entertained.

As far as going to the rail I will use any method I can short of dynamite. When using spinning gear I will put my right arm on the rail just just passed my elbow( towards my my shoulder) with the butt of the rod under under my armpit.I am using my arm as a fulcrum. This keeps the reel and line away from the rail and works very well when the tuna is near the boat and also I amtoo tired to hold the rod up anymore

Grescobia: I too am looking forward to meeting you (as well as everyone else who has had the good grace not to try to get me banned from this board.) My problem is that about 3/4 of the times I am entertaining, it is unintentional. And what's worse, I'm far more entertaining while screwing up on board. Haven't tossed a rig overboard yet, but I've nearly had one pulled out of my hands. I am going to try fishing the rail this trip so I expect some real-time lessons.

Russ
