No running start, just shear exhaustion. The rail on the big e is high enough to prevent falling overboard, except at the stearn corners. There it dips down to about waist high. We were on the last hours of a 48 hour trip, and had been tossing big topwaters for at least 6-8 hours, maybe more. Plus, we had already caught a bunch of fish. We were all tired as hell, and just a few gung ho folks hung in there until the end. He just really leaned into the cast to put his weight behind it and then kept on leaning.

It was not funny at all when it happened, then it became funny as hell, and then again, once you started thinking about what could have happened, it was scary again. Seas were calm, daybreak was near, we were close to the rigs lights, and it was warm in October. If it had been November, cold, rough seas, darker, and away from the lights, it could have been really bad.

Mr. Bill, is that the family treasure you bought on ebay? A jewel protector?

STX: I can see it now: Within 6 months--tops--Anglers Pro Shop (Don't shoot me for this Randy and Sami! ) will be selling the "Fisherman Cigar Surface Slider" for $45.00 per piece--colors to include Basic Brown, Baby Scat Yellow, and Parasite Green. The pamphlet will state something like the following:

素材は、30トン+40トングラファイトのコンポジットで、グラファイトクロスを3方向から巻

Which translates roughly as: “In order to simulate to the diving tuna the foremost in exactness of the turd-shape, while springing forth the action of the current drift, outside of lure is woven with cross-linked kevlar to hold form when tuna bites big one and to imitate exactly the texture of the hard-squeezed unit while representing to rising fish the freshness of the mayfly on mountain stream."

Someone will catch a tuna on one of the damned things and APS will have to put up a "Sold Out" button on the website until 12 more units are allocated from Japan.

Within another six months, TJ, Rick, Kevin, and company will put their heads together and OTI will come out with a more cost-effective unit that is perhaps not quite so attractive, but will have authentic scents added.

(Like I said, Randy and Sami: I hope we can still be friends. TJ and Rick--you too. )

Russ

Uncle Russ,

Believe it or not, about ten years ago, Moldcraft came out with a hot lure for marlin fishing. It was called "The Texas Turd". It was a softhead wide range trolling lure in a brown color. It was the hottest lure in the tournament circuit for a couple of years. I think I still have one somewhere.

I think the new name for a brown popper in the appropriate style mentioned should be called "The Lincoln Log". Even if it didn't work, people would buy it.

Actually, I have been called that a couple of times.

Kil: Back to the main topic again. Hopefully I have your permission to post this link that I found of you in a video on using the rail. This is worth a thousand words. If you would rather have it removed, please let me or TJ know. Just curious how big the yellowfin was in this case and what kind of rod and line you were using. Thanks.

Russ
