    Trying to make do

Hi guy's. Need some advice from you jigging experts. I'll be doing a couple day's on an upcoming trip, and I'm at a loss. I don't want to buy any new gear, as I'm saving for a trip to Costa Rica this fall so I want to try and make do with what I have.
I've got a trevala f rod (conventional) and a couple of avet reels. A JX and an HX, both 2speed. Would either of these reels be a good match with the rod and get me by.
We'll be fishing in 150/200' of water, with light structure, and while anythings possible, AJs are the most common fish caught. Size ranges up to 100#, but average much smaller
Another possibility is a Cabo 80 that I have, but the rods I have would not be appropriate, so I would need some suggestions regarding that option.
Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Using a Trevalla on a 100# Aj is like going to a gun fight with a knife. That being said the JX and Trevalla will get you by until you are thouroughly addicted and need to upgrade.

If you have the TFCXXH or the TFCXH you will be more than fine!! Very good setup, more than adequate for fish up to 100lbs. I landed a 325lb porbeagle shark with the XXH rod last year.

Thanks for the super quick replies. The trevala in questin is a TFC-58XXH rated at 80-200# and 120-325g. Is heavy enough? My JX is presently spooled with 50# solid, should I bump it up to 65#?
    Thanks again

You should be fine with the xxh. It's not ideal but will get the job done fine for fish under 100lbs

Oh and I would definitely bump to at least 65, 80 would be better.

65lb is a good size, 80lb is great if you can fit enough on the reel.

Thanks for the tips, guy's. I've got a part spool of 65# solid that should fill the JX, and I'm going to get an inexpensive (but sturdy) spinning rod to go with my cabo 80 and try both set-ups. See which one I'm most comfortable with. Experience is the best teacher.

    Earle,
here are 2 pics. the first is me fighting a Porbeagle that took a cod off my line and happened to get hooked perfectly with the cod jig. Notice the TFC58XXH rod 80lb braid by the way. Second pic is the beast himself 35 min later
