Jon, definitely not a Shimano Caranx as that model is for Asia only.
Russ, no way its the one that Kil uses, that rod is a USA model... remember the good ones never make it to our shores! Look at how near land is!! I got my Japanese friend to interpret the subtitles: Location: Aomori, between mainland Japan and Hokkaido, 3 mins from marina, depth 20m Rod: Souls Casting Tuna sf_ct Reel: Saltiga Dogfight Lure: Carpenter |

Hi Randy , What is your opinion about the length of the handle's butt section of Caranx Kaibutsu being some 2"~3" longer than the common handle of other makers' , I simulate my stance and if I were to fish with those rods , my gimbal belt would be around my knee to be comfortable . If I put it at the level I am used to fish with , the top of the grip would be above my nose when the rod is placed close to my chest . I am 5'8" and can't just digest the length of the handle to be made for Asian , more like for Eric Le Guyader which is some 2 meter tall if you ask me . I guess one can always cut it shorter . Jon . |

Hi Jon,
I find that 17" or 18" from the gimbal end to the reel stem (for spinning reel) is optimum for pump and squat technique with the hands on the foregrip, and if a fish dive vertical, the hand can be quickly moved to the reelstem location to lower the rod angle. I haven't seen a Caranx Kaibutsu yet but if it is longer than usual I only see the benefit for casting. It will be difficult to recover from high stick position and very tiring to the arms with the reel seating so high up. I like my reel at shoulder level with the rod in the belt. Jon, better not hijack this thread.... |

The rod can be taken apart in the mid-section. Its not detached at the butt like typical GT popping rods. Rods over 9' long are usually mid-section jointed for ease of transportation. |
