Would using a "huki" help in this situation to get more leverage and be useful for high rails?

Its really not that big of a deal using a spinner on a party boat, its done all the time. I hate those huki things. Give me a lightweight jigging popping belt and my spinner and Im fine

so in your experience Glenn, you've never had a problem with the shorter japanese rods' parabolic action actually contacting the rail, correct? (Assuming that it was such a big fish the rod almost folded over itself)...

Well, I guess that would also be bad fishing technique too

Why do you think you have to jig over the rail ?
Did I say you got to adjust. You can jig by putting your rod under the rail ? Sometimes I do on a party boat, it is not comfortable, but it works.

^wow! Good idea! However, sometimes there's not even an opening under the rail.

Just keep the bail arm away from that rail when it's spinning at 5 to 1 ++ the rail usualy wins.

Then, use a conventional rod and reel. You got to adjust.
