    jigging popping in what country

What I like about this site is the number of people who respond from other countries. That said I live on Cape Cod jig for cod stripers and tuna. Where are you guys from and what do you catch and how do you like to fish? Just killing a winter day!!!

I am from Norway and in the wintertime we fish on the ice. both in saltwater and fresh, in the summertime we fish in the northern parts offshore by boat. We have a lot of common species as alaska. The "billfish" in norway I would say salmon, trout, pike, halibut, polack and cod, greenland shark!

I live in Port Aransas, Texas and fish for Tuna here in the gulf. However my daughter is buying a lake house in New Milford, Connecticut and thats close enough that your fishery will be available to me when I visit.

    Hello

I am from the netherlands. I allways do saltwater fishing from shorelines. I like to fish competitions from the south of NL to the north.
For that kind of fishing we use surfcastingrods from 16 ft with a spinningreel. target fish are Cod - seabass - sole - Flounder - Whitning and eal.
as bait we use seaworms - lugworms - strips of mackrel and shellfish.

    regards,

    Arnout.

Hafnor great pictures, thanks for making my winter day a little shorter. I was looking to travel with my girlfriend so can you tell me is it expensive to vacation and fish in Norway?

    Hey guys,

I am from New Zealand, but I live and work in Taiwan. In NZ, I did a lot of shore fishing snapper, tarakihi, blue cod, lemon sharks, big rays and whatever else that will jump on my hook and livebait for kingfish. If I can get out on a boat, then you can add bluenose, warehau, trumpeter, grouper to the list. Fishing in NZ is very very good. I really miss it.

In Taiwan, I got into jigging about 2 years ago. I mainly jig in the north and southeast of Taiwan around Green Island for yellowfin tuna, big eye tuna, skipjack, albacore, coral trout, red trumpet fish, grouper and AJs. There are GTs, dogtooth tuna and marlin around, but I've never caught one or seen one caught before. Only seen them at the fish market or heard stories of them being caught. There are a lot more AJs caught in the north of Taiwan.

    Austin

It really depends on what you want to do. Airfares from the states to Norway are usually pretty high. If you want to go offshore there are some known captains out there but there isn't a lot. Gotland on this forum is a guide. I believe he does jigtrips after big polack, and deep deep sea after greenland sharks, skates etc. If you want to hunt halibut you have to rent a boat for approx. 120usd pr. day. That is a small boat. Halibut guides are varies from 400-1200 usd per day with boat, guide etc.

The boat is a friends. They have a big farm up in the northern parts of Norway that we visit every summer. Gotland is one of the most respected and professional guide out there. He fishes in the "Trondheim" area. you can send him a pm here or check out his website (in norwegian unfourtanetly) MS Gotland - Fiskerapporter

btw. I believe Gotland has fished some times in cape cod, some people here may have met him.
