Good attempt FH to describe it.
I've found that the Stella bail will close strongly once you initiate it with your hand or fingers. If you're hit on the drop, just make sure in closing that you keep your fingers or hand from getting wrapped up in the braided line. Once you push the bail to close, you can start to crank and that will straighten out and move the line onto the line roller. Eventually the move will become second nature and you won't even be conscious of it. |

brian did let a few poppers fly free in venice so he knows the drill.
![]() i'm not thrill about the auto close bail neither. had a few accidental close while casting popper that had the lure flying back toward the boat. on jigging with a spinner using braid, a big fish will take skins off your finger on a fast run. i would loosen the drag to 5-10 lbs, i use tape on my pointing & middle finger (line control) and close the bail by quick drop of rod tip and left hand manually closing bail, tighten the drag. make sure the line is on the roller before setting the hook several times. just my way of jiggin with a spinner before i got into collecting assorted avets & rods. i'm ready for a big E trip. lets tuna |
