very interesting thread. There's a lot of information and it seems to me it's more than just for newbies. There's a lot of things to think about as you learn the subtleties of jigging. I wish I would have stumbled across this a couple of years ago.

Thank you for taking the time to put this all in one space. I learn something new every day on this site. I think it will make me a more effective jigger but it's going to force me to start going some place with deeper water.

I like the helmet idea, LOL, it's be a get help if I hook a tarpon on a jig. That way I won't suffer brain damage when he comes up and shakes the jig off and it come sailing right at my face. Either that or rig a break-away jig.

Anyone here have any information or help for jigging in hawaii? I'm looking to get into jigging. I'm on the main island of oahu, The range of fish here could be anything from Amberjacks, Wahoo/Ono, Mahi Mahi/Dolphin/Dorado, Big Eye Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Grey Snapper, and many others. Right now I have a 10k FA stella with a 16000 spool loaded with 80lb daiwa boat braid, I was thinking I could use this reel for double duty plugging for GT's and jigging until I get a dedicated jigging reel. For jigging purposes I was planning on using my stock 10k spool and loading it up with maybe pe4 05 boat braid for line capacity. I was just curious as to how you determine the depth that you're going to work your jig, for example if your fishing a FAD (Fish Aggregation Device) fancy name for a buoy if you're picking up small schools of fish everywhere and you want to target something bigger, what would be the max depth you would drop your jig to start working and see if anyone is home. The type of jig you're going to use anything color specific for Tuna, Wahoo, or AJ's. I don't mean to Hi-jack this thread but not sure where to post this.
