There are plenty of inexpensive lures out there that'll catch fish (the hammered diamond jig comes to mind), but there's just no such thing as dependable "cheap" terminal tackle.

The $300 is just for the lures, not the terminal tackle.

swimbaits work when the bite is finicky. but you can make some pretty easily with huge sassy shad bodies and a super large hook from Bass Pro or somewhere similar. I would rather throw a topwater 12 hours straight for 3 tuna...

theres a HUGE swimbait craze in the freshwater bassing world... you can pick em up pretty cheap now.... so many different manufacturers now.

I use alot of the Yozuri crystal minnows for grouper and Kings. Would they hold up to Tuna?

d-a, Charkbait has the Tuna Hunter jr Strike Pro

I go with a color I can easily see but sometimes the darker colors seem to be more productive.

Also, I like the frenzy rubber flying fish (FFF). A lot of people hate the FFF as it doesn't cast as far and can be difficult to hook up when a YFT strikes. It needs a trailer hook. But I like it. When you master the lazy guy way of fishing one, you might be surprised and find out you like it.

the cystal minnow magnum have a wire, the smaller ones dont. even with the magnums i would replace the hooks. look at the yozuri sliders. they cast a mile and can withstand tuna abuse

Yozuri sliders? Is that like the hydro pencil and the banna boat?
