On my foreign trips, I can typically get just about everything accomplished with six outfits:
Stella 8000 on Smith KGS 70MH (50# braid) Stella 20,000 on Smith 80P/35 (65# braid) Trinidad 16N on Trevala 58XH (50# braid) Trinidad 40N on Smith WGJ 50H (65# braid) Torsa 20 on Calstar 760L (non-roller version - 65# braid, 50# topshot) Tibor Riptide on Loomis Cross-Current GLX 10wt - (WF-10-F) Anything other than what's on that list to be substituted in only for specific purposes (chasing pig YFT or marlin in PV, permit-quest in Belize, mixed grab-bag of fish in the Indian Ocean, etc). I used to travel with as many as three tubes full of rods and an extra Pelican case full of reels but the excessive tackle began to detract from the fishing. I think one of my most fun fishing trips was going to Seychelles for five weeks with just two rods and two reels. I caught a ton of fish and didn't have a tackle-shop worth of gear along to worry about (or pay excess baggage fees on). Sometimes less really is more. ![]() |
