I think it depends on the skill of anglers to use 60 lbs rod for jewfish.
I don't recommend 60 lbs rods for jewfish for average fishermen.
The composite GUSA rods are great for live bait fishing.

I have been experimenting acid wrapped rods for years and my conclusion is the spiral wrapped rods definitely reduce the wobbling problmes of big reels.
I talked with a professional grouper fisherman in NC yesterday and he intends to build 5 - 6 grouper rods acid wrapped after he experimenting it.

Thanks Ksong..
I have boated Jewfish to 90lbs with a St Croix 20-40 with a Avet MX..I like to fish on the light side..I leaning towards the acid wrap..I just havent had the time to test it out yet..
The Wahoo Jr-c is more than enough rod for me..

I can not jig like young, energetic jigfishermen for Japanese style jigging with short rods as my body can not allow me to do it anymore. I plan to jig even slower with short rods especially after I saw Jerry took helicoptor.
You might saw Dave Irving jig with Jigging Master short rod on the Big E trip.
He is as good as any jig fisherman with Japanese style jigging.
I'll send you copies of jigging DVD by Jigging Master AG guys when I get them, but don't try to copy them as your body is not young either.

I would like a copy also. I am not young but I jig like shimano video all day. Also what reels are you guys using for jigging?

KSong: What color and size jig have you found to be most effective?

When I am not sure about colors on bucktails, I start with white. There are only two color of diamond jigs. Chrome and gold. Both are working as I don't see any difference.

Do you not use the butterfly jig?
