I feel I have to say something about hammered diamond jigs as I think I introduced hammered diamond jigs to Gulf of Mexico.
Hammered diamond jig has been used on tuna party boats on the East Coat along with regular diamond jigs, but it seems fishermen faver hammered diamond jigs over regular diamond jigs. The most popular sizes are 8 oz and 10 oz. It seems we get lesser bites when using over 10 oz. As we seldom fish deeper than 200 ft, the 8 - 10 oz usually can hold. Contrary to Gulf Coast fishermen, jig fishermen on the East Coast prefer upcurrent side of boat and cast out to work jigs toward boat. When jigs are under the boat, we cranked in the jigs and cast again. Here are some pictures caught on 8 oz hammered diamond jigs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for the input Kil. I wish I had gotten more, I am down to 3. Hopefully I can get a tuna on jig this weekend. I'll head over to bass pro and pick up some more regular diamond jig before I head down tomorrow.

Have you tried Fishin' World on Lovers Lane (www.fishinworld.com)? They have a lot of saltwater stuff. I'm unsure about hammered jigs though

Purevl and ALW: Thanks for your responses, Gentlemen. I realized you don't want it to go under the boat and should have realized that any "drift" would have to be away from the direction of drift since you would not be casting as I know Kil does.
Back when I was looking at hammered jigs I noticed that a lot of them are sold with swivels attached. Do any of you fish swivels on your diamonds? I found an older post in which etan says he has bought them at Jigs, Rigs and Stuff... and they have their 6 - 16 ounce jigs rigged with what appears to be a stainless swivel between the jig and also what appears to be a stainless hook--the Mustad 3407. They state that the hook is both sharp and strong enough for tuna. Does anyone have any knowledge of their products? Any opinion either on the swiveled hook they use or a swivel on the line end? I would think stainless would be unacceptable. Russ

I've bought a bunch of jigs from Jigsrigsand stuff, IMO lose his swivel and change out the hook. I wouldn't depend on the hardware he uses, especially for tuna. |

Just ordered 4 of the 10 oz. variety from tunatackle--happened to be on their site looking for drop straps, so I ordered 4 with the 550 pound spro swivel--in all fairness, they do say if you are going to use them for tuna, to deep-six the hooks.
