Popping rod blank

What blanks would be good for a popping rod?

I already have a Smiths 80P/35 popping rod, but need another blank for a back up.

d-a,

OTI will sell you a blank, and their 7.5ft PE8 rod would be tough to beat. If you're looking for an tough glass/graphite type blank, a Calstar 700H is probably still the most used tuna rod in the GOM.

Both are great blanks (I have both). Other options would include the GUSA MonMags or Super Seeker CJBF70 series.

Forgot to add that I didnt want a 2 piece rod. If the oti was a one piece rod I would already own one.

Curious why dont you want a 2 piece rod. They hold up perfect, if your concerned about strength and for traveling 2 piece rods are the best. All the top manufacturers of popping rods make 2 piece for a reason

These 2 piece rods are a handle type 2 piece maybe D-A doesn't realize that.
It is the only way I would own a rod over 7'6''.There is absolutly no compromise on quality with this type of blank.

If you are looking for one piece popping blank, check 7'9" St Croix Legend Tournament rated to 80 lbs. The rod from the blank weighs only 9 oz.
But the blank is not cheap.

D-A I would never steer you wrong, I only suggest what I would use personally. Two piece butt joint rods are absolute animals no doubt about it they aren't engineered like the old style two piece rods. Iv'e caught some huge fish on both my Zenaq and Carpenter butt joints.
