Extend Rod Butt

Does anyone know if this is possible w/o affecting integrity of rod?

I have a 2 piece spinning jigging rod (given to me as a present) and I'd like to extend the rod butt. I'm NOT concerned with increasing overall length of rod, I just want more space between end of rod butt and real seat.

Any ideas, suggestions? Perhaps I should just visit a local rod builder? Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Mate the best approach would be to get the handle redone to suit your requirements

An extension can be placed on the butt, but it will change the action of the rod and unless done correctly, can compromise the rods integrity

Someone mentioned removing butt cap and adding a gimbal. Found a couple gimbals in the 3'3.5" range which would be perfect. Any other comments/suggestions?

If 3" or so is all the extension you need then its easy. With the gimbal though, it will require a bit of mounting depth. Say you went in 1.5", would the 2" resultunt extension be enough for your needs? You would be best to locate some alloy tubing in the wall thickness to suit the power of your rod and install that over the end of your rod to a depth of around 3" and then have enough left out to suit your purpose. Either mount EVA or a shrink material like xflock and a butt cap to finish it off. Instead of trying to hide the seam between the original and new EVA, place one of the Matagi or Mudhole CRB dress rings there for highlight. A reasonably competent rod builder should be able to sort you out without too much dramas

I would remove the grip, add on a section of a broken rod that has a larger diameter so it fits over the butt or the same diameter and something strong to fit inside both rods and epoxy together. Then put a new grip over the extended butt shaping the inside so it fits properly with no bulges.
