2-Piece Rod Rings

Need some rod expert advice on which ring to purchase for my rods , I would think that the right mesure to take in the blank would be above the reel seat. But how far appart ?

The rod rings are designed to be placed on the threads of Aftco reel seats/unibutts. I think you would be asking for trouble if you placed it directly on the blank as it would concentrate the load into a very small area.

i would think minimal as possible but if you haven't seen this you might wanna consider it............ i bot one but haven't had a chance to try it

Thank you Ron , I would surely follow your advice.
Mr Bill apreciate your info on the spinners BTW saw the reel rest on Braid I do have a very similar gadget designed for conventionals I guess it should also work for spinners.

nevvuh mind...... me and coventionals w/o lugs for offshore jest didn't compute

i just looked at that braid product and noticed it'd work for lugless conventionals too if was made longer

cheap way out would be to tie 2 rings, snaps, or plain ol'chain links together and drop in front o'the reel over the top, cris-cross underneath, come back up behind the reel and cris-cross again on top

leverage just doesn't seem to be right to me being behind the reel but i guess it helps rest the arms a bit

I use 2-piece Rod Rings (by Reel Colors) on a couple of Super Seekers. One with a Trini 50 and the other with a Stella 20K. The rings are behind the reel on the AFTCO reel seat and leverage using the harness and plate seems to be fine. I tested the rings to 32 lbs of drag with my harness and plate while one of my twins tried to run with the line - seemed fine. IMO, using rings on a graphite reel seat is very risky. I haven't caught a monster YFT where I can actually fight the fish with 20+ of drag but I'm confident the rings will hold up.

The rod rings were designed to fit the aftco reelseats. When I spoke with Tom Testa ( Reelcolors ) he said that he would not use them on the fuji graphite reelseats as they would not fit snugly. However, I do have one installed on a fuji reel seat but when I made the installation of the reelseat onto the blank, I made absolutely sure that there were no voids (ie air pockets) between the blank and the reel seat. I made sure that it was filled with epoxy. The reelseat was also installed in the down locking position with the threaded part forward of the reel as this was a spinning rod. I felt that the connection point being higher gave me more support. I also used some rubber material to fill in the gap between the rod ring and the threaded part of the fuji graphite reelseat to avoid damage to the threads. For my other builds, I have begun to use the aftco reelseat and the solid rod rings instead of the two piece ones.
