Noooo :(

Well argo, your LX is a little tainted, but it will only be temporary.

Well I got the courage to take apart my first conventional and it aint as easy as it seems.
Seems I lost the spring in the anti reverse deal, I took off the plate to clean out what looked like gunk (mighta just been grease), and POP the spring flew away So does anyone have an idea what size spring I should go get at roys? Or should I concede defeat and just let em fix it up?

And on this LX, there is a little black button that you have to push in to get full drag, I took it out and just replaced the cover, is this as stupid as I think it is? I just took it out thinking that if I ever get a big one and I needa button down, Im not gonna wanna push in a button, can someone set me straight?

Also Im gonna be using this on the 12hr trip ( I know it aint a 52hr on the Big E, but Im buying a Laser, so money aint all over me right now ) what rod shall I put this on? Under $150 and preferably un $100, mostly for jigging.

taking that little drag button out-is not smart.... you will push it to full drag and pop your line... all in a SPLIT second. --- I will sell you my Sea Magic rod for $100. I havent used it yet, and you wont be able to have it until after the May Cinco Tuna trip. Same one in the pics. I have an LX on it, and its very nice(never been used) But will be used on Cinco Tuna(52hour Big E trip). I will be upgrading to an OTI jiggin stick as soon as they come in. So in reality if the OTI sticks get here before Cinco- it will be unused. I will ship it to you for free. When the time comes, you will have to paypal or mail me money before I ship the rod.

btw~ if you are fish offshore.. you better start mowing lawns or something. Ya know its funny... I made the best money when I was 16.... cash money $50 a lawn(took 2 hours to mow, weedeat, and sweep)... and the best part was uncle Sam was clueless as to what I had!!!! LOL!!!!

( i say "best" because because it was untraceable income)..

Angry

well its off to roys tomorrow, couldnt figure out how to try to put it back together without that spring which I know is important, just wanted to try to put it back together, not that there were too man parts but after I thought it was back together, the drag wasnt catching or something, so its in a ziploc waitinf to be dropped off at roys.

Thank God for roys.

When you get to Roy's ask Lupe or one of the other girls if they can pick out the right spring for you, and then try to put it back together again. You might want to get TWO springs! If it still doesn't work for you, then take it back to Roy's and let them do it, but give it another try.

Study some of AlanTani's tutorials, I don't know if they've been posted here yet, but if not, they are on the BloodyDecks board. The LX is a simple one, try it again. I'll bet you can do it! And stay away from BOTD!!

kevin, i posted the avet sx rebuild tutorial and will start loading up the rest soon. the sx is close to the lx with only a few small differences, one of which you found yourself. i don't have an lx now, but there's enough interest that i will go ahead and shoot some photos when the next reel comes through. alan

i have found it takes A LOT of patience working on the reels. I also found I have to double, sometimes triple check everything I have done. I think of myself as very mechanically inclined, and still have to take my time with no distractions. I disassebled and reassembled my Tiagra-16 six times to get it right. In the process I stripped out one of the sideplate bolts holes on the stock frame...luckily I got it installed in the topless frame and it works. Now I have to do it again to PROPERLY grease and oil the bearings. I would hate to have a bearing lockup due to my ignorance. Mr Alan sure opened up the spectrum with the knowledge he is offering to the forum. I printed out 35 pages of the bearing tutorial. It will be put into my binder.

sometimes it still takes me a half dozen times to get a reel right. it's rare for me to work on the same model reel twice in a row.

Exclamation

Alan

I have a Penn 30 TW that has been 2 Speeded with extra room for gear shifting provided via a spacer ring... with shifter and gears from a 30S.

I took it apart because the Drag had gotten a little weak. I bought a new Drag plate and New factory carbon fiber drag washer assy for a Penn 30TW.

After assembly with the new parts it has very little adjust Pre-Set drag adjustment before I loose Free Spool. As far as I can tell it's exactly as I took it apart on the washer stack. spacers..ect. Is it possible the drag assy spline boss is longer than the original??

Anything you can think of that might fix the problem??
Thanks... Bazz
