the reel was already shipped back to ragman. i know it may seem funny, but here's what i do. i fix a reel and then send it back. the owner needs to make sure everthing is ok and then send me a check. perviously, i only had one customer that had ever stiffed me. he was a 16 year old kid from miami. since then, there have only been two other instances. one involved tom titus (ragman) and the other involved hal gunkel, both from this board. i guess three bad debts is not bad for 10 years of business. alan

Excellent tutorial Alan and well photographed too.

I just finished working on this exact same model reel for a friend yesterday. He had sent his reel to a local fishing store to be serviced as they claimed to do a good job. It was returned with a grating almost negligible free spool. They had not re-installed the drag plate spring (gear side) correctly - it wasn't seating because it was back to front (as one end is larger than the other). They supposedly replaced several bearings and treated the inside of the reel with an anti-corrosion agent. Saw no evidence of this especially the latter. When he asked why the reel was not free spooling anymore they claimed the drag plates were bent.

Sorry to hear about your bad debtors.

If you are speaking of the exact same reel. I hope you have better luck than Alan. If you have already sent your money, you may not receive anything. If he was willing to cheat Alan, why would he treat you any better?
