Super Seeker Spinning Popper

Submited By MrBill MrBill is offline
Just received a pair of custom made spinning rods I ordered from Txseadog. Very nice. The blanks are Super Seeker CJBF70H 40 (50) 60 pound rating. 7' in length, Aftco gold reel seats, gold anodized aluminum gimbal, hypalon grips, gold anodized reel color removable fighting rings, and MNSG fugi guides. Wraped in a black/gold combination.

It seems as everybody on this board is looking for best popping rod. These are going to be perfect for me. I don't mind the fact that they aren't super light weight made with plastic seats and gimbals. I'm no lightweight and love the long lasting durability of aluminum. A 50 pound class rod with a stiff tip should send those poppers to China. I mounted a pair of Shimano Stella 20000 spinning reels on these rods loaded with 65 lb spectra and a 25 foot top shot of 80 lb fluorocarbon.

I choose the super seeker blank because it is suposed to have great recovery and is billed as unbreakable. I don't believe any rod of good character is unbreakable. I have a bad habit of high sticking which tends to snap rods. These rods blanks have just hit the market. I plan on testing them next weekend with a group of five people. I heard the bite today at Colt 45 was incredible. Lots of big Hoo's in the 50 pound class combined with YF's and a couple blue marlin tearing up the spread. Our plan is to fish Colt 45 and then hit the new floater off Port Mansfield at night.

Thanks Kevin for doing a beautiful job on the rods. I am very pleased.

The overall length from the bottom of the gimble to the tip of the fore grip is 31". The Fore Grip is 11 1/2".

How much does a rod like that cost?
If I got a rod like that for my spheros, would it be like getting a $5000 stereo in a pinto?

That rod should be able to sustain 25 pounds of drag for a long duration. 25 pounds of drag is piece of cake for the 20K reel. The problem with the 20K is finding a spinning rod that can take 35 to 40 pounds of drag and still be able to cast with it.

I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed monitoring all the various discussions. I went on my first GOM offshore trip in 2004 and I'm hooked!!! The information being shared is appreciated and will certainly help with future purchases.

I too needed a rod for a Stella SW 20000 and settled on the new Super Seekers. Wasn't sure what length so I purchased a SS CJB70H 7' and SS CJB65H 6.5' with Aftco seats and gimbals, and Gold Fuji Heavy Duty Hardloy guides. Guess now I've got an excuse to purchase another Stella.

I'd welcome an opportunity to join folks on a GOM YFT trip unless I'm with Uncle Russ hunting bunnies with my Weatherby

Since I started this thread, here are some more Pics of the CJBF70H under a dead load. I only had 24 pounds of weights with me, otherwise I would have taken the rod to 35 pounds of dead lift.

Those are pretty impressive pics. Am in the process of wrapping two spinners for an 8000 and a 20000. Mine will be similar but went with the Calstar grafighter blanks, a 700H and a 700XH, for the lightness. Will post them up when I've finished em. The XH (a 40(60)100 blank) feels great, Think it's gonna be a bear for power.
