Super Seeker CTSF55XXXH |
|
|
|
|
I just received my new Super Seeker CTSF55XXXH rated 80 (100) 130 made by Seadog Rods. I'm home alone or I would have taken some lift test pictures. Let me just say that I need to bring home some more weights. I will follow up lift pictures in a few days. I'll probably have "Rodbuster" help me with the test. I will stop him before rod failure occurs.
I fished with some custom rods using the Winthrop guides last summer. After using them on a few marlin, I don't think there is any comparison to the proven Aftco big foots. They are expensive, but worth the extra money for the long haul. You can place a pencil through every guide including the tip. The pencil will even fit between the rod blank under the guide. You would have to be the world's worst knot maker to make a knot that wouldn't pass through these guides. The Winthrop's are machined out of a solid block of aluminum. The ball bearing rollers are machined to fit perfect inside the machined guide. There is absolutely zero play. No wobble what so ever. I don't see any way you could fray the line. Then, you have the hottest blank on the market. The Super Seeker line of rods is raising eyebrows throughout the fishing industry. The rod is topped off with a black/gold Aftco unibutt. A shrink wrap was used over the hypalon grip. Very nice. Thanks, Kevin. Once again you've outdone yourself. Excellent job. We'll be doing more rods very soon. Here's some pictures of the rod. Some will have a pencil placed into the guides to give you an idea of the guide size. |

SKR
The Motor Cycle/ Pickle song by Arlo Guthrey is from Alice's Restaurant.. used to be on the radio 15 times a day when I was a teenager. The Stooges were on every morning before school Slam Bang Theater and again when you got home from school.. Culture my boy.. Culture As for the Tx Seadog/ Seeker rod testing.. yep pretty extreme stuff but now you know it will handle just about anything you'll ever hook in the GOM. Bazz |

Mr Bill,
I tried to look up Sea Dog rods, but can't find them on Google. I just bought a pair of Penn 50TWs, and I'm shopping for rods. 23 foot boat, Galveston/Port A, tuna, sail, marlin, sword. How do these price out vs Chaos or Penn? Thanks, Dave |

you need to send TxSeaDog a "PM" off this site.. hes a member here.
Custom rods are always more pricy that shelf rods. but the plus is, they are built for YOU, and what you desire/need.

HCD, Chaos or Penn cannot match up to these Super Seeker blanks. Like a Lexus verses a Chevy. Both might do, but which is more comfortable to fish with and do all the work bringing in a fish, not you. I've built several and everyone who has them, loves the SS'ers. SeaDog does good work too.

HDC7794,
I see you just bought two new Penn 50TWs. If you plan on using them on a 23 ft CC I would just buy two of the 50-100lb white Penn tuna sticks with full rollers tip to stripper. They are only about 269 ea. They are super buy for the money. I think I have nine of them. A custom rod like the one in this thread will run you about 3 times that amount. I think it was worth it. I plan on replacing the all roller tuna sticks with CTSF55XXXH's with Winthrop rollers. I've only caught one fish that gave the rod in this thread a workout. It was a blue marlin that was released. Est around 350#'s. She was a real fighter. Sometimes you get a marlin that is just plain mean. She sounded and I had to pump her up. I honestly thought I was going to break the rod as I was under a time frame to get the fish to the boat. I'm not sure anyone can break this CTSF55XXXH. I did my best but it held up. I'm trying my best to free up some time so I can make another quick trip to PV in Oct. I will take this rod if it happens. Otherwise, I have a few more trips planned in 2007that might give it a test. (End Quote) You are absolute correct. The whole line of SSer's is awesome. Nobody can touch the performance of these new blanks. I which I owned Seeker stock. They will corner the market of custom rod builders in a short time. Last edited by MrBill : 10-01-2007 at 04:56 PM. |

what's the diff?

Pull on both and Use whichever you like. I have/use both in various wt classes, but prefer Calstar roller rods for 100# plus service. 7460H,755XXH, 7460XH. I think it's the action and wt of the rod. My experience is that good, custom-built Calstars (blanks noted above) w/Aftco rollers can cost less than factory ready-mades. I add the 3M coldshrink over the hypalon on the foregrip to prepare for rail contact. |
