SeaMagic 400gram Jiggin rod

***PLEASE understand I am distributing the wieght load THROUGHOUT the whole rod..... IF YOU HI-STICK this rod, it WILL break, as ANY ROD WILL *******
No sense in making Islanders pay for rods that are being broken due to hi-sticking them.


Here is the SeaMagic 400 gram jiggin rod with a 20# scale weight. The line does not come close to touching the rod blank at any location. The rod tries to twist a little towards the end if its not square to the weight. I would say this would be the max it would fish.

I dont know what type of drag pressure you plan on putting on this rod but the 665 will put out more than the rod can handle.
I put my 870 2 speed on the 600 gram and with 30 lbs of drag the line will start cutting into the grip. I know that it is quite a bit heavier than the 400 gram rod but if you are jigging for the big one or around rigs then you will want to put out all the drag you can and you will need a rod that can handle it.
I guess what I am getting at is why wouldn't you use a rod that can handle the reel that you put on it? IMO a few extra ounces of weight while jigging is worth it when you hook a big fish and need to yank him out of the rig.

Thanks for your repsonse. Im mostly jigging in the northeast where there are no rigs just open water, and at 20-25lbs of drag I feel I can fight most fish succesfully, but I understand your point. I also plan to try using it for other multi-purpose trips.

You may now ask if you only wanted a reel with 20-25lbs of drag why buy the 665 instead of the 870? I did this becuase of the extra line capacity the 665 offers. If I was using this down in the gulf near rigs as i sometimes do I would definately use a heavier rated rod like the 600. I did the test with 20lbs of pressure and the line wasn't touching anywhere on the rod.

I plan on testting it out up here as I am still ooking for the right rod. I am looking forward to having a custom popping and jigging rod made soon

Last week while fishing the A28 TP&W reef I had the misfortune of breaking my 250 gram conventional Dragonfly jigging rod. I hooked up on a good fish on one of the squidjigs.com cheapo jigs and it was stripping line pretty good from the Accurate 870. Trying to regain line I may have high sticked it a bit due to my excitement. The rod snapped near the tip cutting the 60lb JB solid line and the rod tip went overboard. The good news and the point of this post is that the rod was replaced at the Galveston store with no questions asked.
