OTI G4 400g-800g Custom Rod

Submited By MrBill MrBill is offline

Brand: OTI G4 400g-800g blank
My new custom OTI G4 400g-800g rod arrived today. Txseadog made the rod for me. The rod is 5'4" in length. He used Fuji HB series guides to increase the distance off the foregrip for heavy drag use. The acid wrap rod is black with silver accents to match my other custom rods. A silver ALPS reel seat was used for strength. Thanks Kevin, another fine job.

Since this is one of the "New Carbon" rods and is rated 400g to 800g, I have temporally parked an Accurate BX-30 reel on it. From preliminary bends, I don't think the BX-30 will have enough drag to bottom out this rod.

Looks great! Those look like some serious guides. My Stella 20k is going on my 400g-800g soon as it arrives!

I'm going to do some lift tests. But, I need to go buy some more weights. I have a feeling this rod is going to fish drag pressure beyond what I am used too.

How do you think it compares to the OTI 600g conv? Is it stiffer?

I just went and pulled on both the 600g and the 400-800g. To answer your question I'd have to say yes, it is stiffer, but by no means a broomstick. I can't find my calipers but by eye balling both blanks, they appear to be the same diameter at the base and tip. It feels very strong yet forgiving.

Great job on the new rod. Turbo guides as I call them...
is the 120lb popping next on the list?

I love those tiger wraps!

Those aren't the Turbo style. The Turbo has the hinge area at the top of the frame.

With all the talk about cows (and breaking rods) in Hatteras and other Long Range trips, I think it's time for me to do some testing on this rod. This is the heaviest duty jigging rod I own. If my back wasn't so screwed up, I'd hop on a plane and test this rod on some deep water bluefins. Since that can't happen, I'll have to rely on hydraulics from a forklift. Come back tomorrow about this time and I'll have some lift pictures.

There's a bunch of new carbon fiber nano resin jigging rods hitting the market. This is one of them. I feel that there is a need for a super heavy duty jigging rod that will still give good jig action and yet be able to take the abuse from these big powerful fish without the angler worrying about a snap when things get crazy next to the boat. Tomorrow, I will find out what all the hype is about as I put this stick to the test.
