JPR rods visit this past weekend

Submited By silky23 silky23 is offline
Well I finally got a chance to make it over to visit Paul at JPR rods this past weekend to draft up a custom OTI jigger and pick up a couple of new jigs. Man, he's got some really nice stuff! After filling up my jig bag and swapping a couple fishing stories we got down to rod blank selection, and what a selection he has there! Paul was very thorough with his rod blank descriptions and allowed me to do side by side weight and pull comparisons with damn near every blank he had in stock from the JM's to OTI's right down to his budget blanks (don't let the word budget fool you here, these are really awesome blanks!). After that he educated me on guides, grips and reel seat selection. I must say, I was never pressured to select the higher priced stuff at all which was nice, just genuine explenations of what I can expect and how it will perform. We wrapped up the session with a couple veiws of some JPR prototypes and some recently completed customs (those acid wrapped guides are sick!). Paul is a genuin down to earth guy who can really build the heck out of some rods and I want to thank him for taking the time to thoroughly walk through everything right down to rigging! At the end of the visit I would up walking away with my jig thurst quenched, a new OTI 300g, and two JPR customs in the works. Not a bad Saturday at all!

we have put them on spinners,
and by request on conventional rods.
they work very well.

Hmm ,not quite sure I get it. You use this like a regular spinning rod? Does the line go on the opposite side of the roller that you would use on conventional gear?

There special roller guides made for spiral wrapped or spinning rods. They only have one roller for when there under the blank and two for transition guides for a spiral wrapped conventional. There built to tighter tolerances so the line doesn't get caught between the roller and the frame
