Jigging trip in Alaska .. spinning rods

Hi guys .. as promised to Skeeter Ronnie ... here are a few pictures of the jigging/rod testing trip to Alaska. We used both spinning and conventional jigging rods and 1 30-60lb spiral wrapped rod ..we caught the 100 lb halibut on the spiral wrapped rod ..... the spinning rods were #1 a rod i built on a 36-80 St Croix blank ... and #2 a 30-60 i built on a graphite/e-glass blend blank ..... we actually caught more of the Ling Cod on the spinning rods.... i don't know exactly why .. could have been the jigging action was a little higher .... but after about 40 of the 50-70 lb Lings .... we stopped caring why we were getting more hits on the spinners .. it was a matter of trying to keep your arms working .... I'll tell you, am selling my cast net on eBay ... no more bait fishing for this old boy .. this was my first ... trip to Alaska and my first jigging trip ... I'll do both again ..
sorry ronnie .. didn't have any weights with me ... the cod we kept were all between 53-67 lbs and we had one halibut right at 100 lbs .. we caught all the fish on jigs from Bone Yard Baits .. had too .. Jimmy was with us .. kidding Jim

Did you go out with a guide there? If so does he have a web page?

Hi .. we didn't go with a guide we went thru my buddy Jim Weber ... he is one of the owners of Boneyard baits and lives in Homer ... he set us up with a couple of good captians and helped us find our way around ... he is a great guy .. try him at BoneYard Baits - Death Wish For Fish ! ... and tell him you want to fish with Captain Rescue and the Fat Midget ...
we are going back next year with a group of about 12-18 guys .. end of Aug

If you target trophy lingcod, the Orion Charter out of Valdez, AK is a good choice too.

Ling Cod
