Calstar 700H |

Looking for a tuna jigging/ bottom fish jigging rod. Someone had mentioned a 700H as a good choice. Any thoughts? Looking to mount a Torque 300 on it & have about 18-20# drag when tuna fishing.
Thanks in advance |

Paul: Now that this thread has been rejuvenated, I saw for the first time your post about "bottoming out". I have to say that I would not argue with a professional on the subject--I really have to confess that when I say a rod will handle drag, what I really mean is pretty elementary and certainly not stated from an engineering standpoint--specifically, I mean I pulled on it at that weight and the SOB didn't break!
Don't ever take anything I say as necessarily having any rational basis. Russ

i dont have a 700H built here, but if someone does i would love to see a pic of the 700 being set with a 30# drag on a scale here is the set of weights we "tried" to lift with the 700H and a torium, we couldnt get the drag tight enough to lift this pic is a GUSA wahoo JR and a tiburon 30 weight is just off the ground Last edited by paul708 : 04-30-2008 at 07:23 AM. |

Paul,
I actually have two 700H rods, one conventional and the other a spinner. Both were made for Accurate by Calstar but the line was cancelled, I guess due to lack of interest--which surprises me because those rods are so popular out on the west coast where Accurate is located. I also picked up a 700XH spinner at that time. All of these rods were overpriced and are certainly workmanlike in appearance--not beautiful. When you say you would like to see a picture of it "set" to 30 pounds, would it be correct if I tied the scale to the bottom of my garage door, set the drag to 30 pounds, and then pulled on the rod at a 45 degree angle and photographed it from the side as in your picture above? I could certainly do that with the ATD12. Russ

that is one of my best sellers the 700H and XH i think my custom price was close to factory russ. just have fun with it thats what its all about i guess you would, pull on the scale slowly and evenly till it hit 30# just a normal drag set and get a pic when your drag starts to slip, that would be 30#? i have fished a rod set at 30# of drag but havent come close to USING 30# of drag |

Mine have SIC guides and I find I paid $350 each plus shipping of $35.00. I feel like the "Accurate" logo makes them more effective and expensive.
