Calstar 700H

Submited By CClassic28 CClassic28 is offline
Looking for a tuna jigging/ bottom fish jigging rod. Someone had mentioned a 700H as a good choice. Any thoughts? Looking to mount a Torque 300 on it & have about 18-20# drag when tuna fishing.

Thanks in advance

I think your are right re maxing out the rod with the 20 lb weight. I use FUGI guides exclusively. The reel on the rod is a Shimano Tyrnos 30 2 speed. It's a little heavy for all day jigging. After taking a hard look at what is available I'm going to be ordering an AVET HX. The USG series is very heavy duty and in my opinion bulletproof guide series. The stripper guide is the largest SIC USG (#25) that FUGI makes. It may be possible to elevate the line coming off the reel by using the RSG or HBSG series guides.

Even under a fairly high loading the blank maintains its axial stability throughout the length of the blank. The further you move towards the tip the more difficult it becomes for the blank to maintain axial stability. This condition is exacerbated when the guides move off of the perpendicular plane. (sorry for the engineerig speak)!

On both of the 700h's that I have built this winter, the guides do not twist when loaded to 20 lbs. When that picture was taken the rod was canted to the right side. Any twisting noted is a result of the canting of the rod.

yes the guides in the pic are twisted from the cant on the reel - no the guides do not twist when the reel is level.

Thanks HII!

I took a swing lesson one time and the instructor used the term "axial stability" in describing a swing fault he observed.

Now I visually understand it! LOL
