Fairfield

I have not been posting reports but still fishing. Two weeks ago the fishing was slow and the past two weekends, the fishing has been on fire. Due to some DUMB reports I posted on other sites, the lake has been packed as of recent but things are finally starting to slow down. For some odd reason though, the Bass Fisherman are having tourney after tourney and had four this last weekend. I also find this odd because the bass are spawning now and I know that bass fisherman usually frown upon catching fish on their beds. Oh well, I dont care either way.
Anyways, over the past two trips, I have landed numerous fish above 18lbs with the largest going around 26lbs or so. I weighed one of the smaller fish and he weighed in at 22.8lbs. The slower trip that I had only landed me two fish in the boat and made for a long drive and a long morning. That morning, there was a MAJOR bass tourney that had about 60+ boats all taking off at the same time and once they took off, the fishing shut down.
While the fishing was slow, I went to the discharge area and tossed for a while and kept getting blown up with no hookups. Well, after a while I decided to toss the cast net and see what was down below. (I knew what it was, I wasnt looking for small reds or bass) First cast with a castnet, four big tilapia are brought on board. Second cast, three big tilapia brought on board, third cast three more and the story repeated itself for about five more cast. The whole deck of the boat is now covered in tilapia and its time to call it a day. CRAZY.. The tilapia are spawning and are very thick. They were not trying to eat my trap but were trying to get it away from their nest. The big males are going wild and have BRIGHT BLUE faces. Great eating and fun to catch, even in a cast net. LOL
Heres a few pics and I will post more when I get them. I took quite a few over the last few trips but have yet to get the film developed. I usually use Digital camera but this time used film. Film seems to take much better pics.

Sorry for not posting a title to the pictures but I took these pics to show just how big the perch and tilapia are that these 20# reds will eat. I have used bigger baits than what you see and all have been effective. The bigger the bait, the bigger the fish. This red was real fat when I caught her and I decided to keep her to see what she had eaten. The red was eaten, the perch was tossed in the trash and the trap will go back on my rod for this coming weekend.

I saved the perch for you. I know how you like to fry up those perch filets. That perch was big enough to provide a meal for two.

Jared, Fairfield in two weeks? Not next weekend but the weekend after? Or is that the weekend you pick up chris? We will get chris out too one day but it wont be to fairfield!!!! Maybe Lewisville or somewhere that he can load up on 4-9lb fish and not 20+lb fish. This weekend is going to suck, I am not looking forward to the long haul to florida but I will deff. make the best of it.

See you guys when I get back.
