The Ultimate Milkcrate

Submited By Gunsmoke Gunsmoke is offline
Below are some pictures from my newly fabricated "Ultimate Milkcrate." It measures 21" x 24" x 12" without handles. 21" x 29 1/2" x 12" with handles. It weights in at 206 pounds. If anyone is interested, I can post pictures of it during the fabrication process.

It is designed to hold 7 rods. The back side with 3 rod holders will hold up to 50W's. The front side with 4 rod holders will hold up to 30's. I designed it to take on long range tuna trips. I figure I need one 50W, one 30W, two jigging outfits, two large spinning outfits, and one bait rod.

Stainless steel eye hooks are behind the rod holders to secure the rods with bungee cords. Stainless steel screws were used throughout the fabrication. It should not move or shift no matter what size seas it will encounter. The rubber feet are solid 1 3/4" thick rubber. Handles will support 500 pounds each. Lee 90 degree medium size rod holders were selected because they are the most proven holder on the market. It is completely fiberglassed and coated with five coats of white epoxy paint.

The core of the crate is constructed with a buildup of 1 1/2" of 12 ply plywood. The plywood core was filled with concrete to gain some weight. I will need someone to help me lift this beast onto the boat. It's one very well constructed heavy milkcrate that will not have to be tied down to the deck. It should not shift or move what so ever.

Bellyups,

I'm a collector. Very seldom do I get rid of things. If this UMC somehow became an ICON among the internet fishermen, it might become a collectible.
I will be adding on to it. I'm meeting with a aluminum fabricator Friday. I also see where there is some room for a couple of those Murry Bros cast stainless steel tuna emblems they put on their tuna chairs. Last I looked, they are about $100 each.

Wouldn't it be funny if I never used it for its intended purpose.

MrBill: You and Gunsmoke are definitely among those Americans with too much time (and I might add cash) on your hands. While I fit the category of what Barack and Hillary consider to be "rich"--those who make over $5,000.00 a year--and while I will feel sorry for myself when and if one of them is elected, I'm definitely not going to waste any tears on you two yahoos. Why don't the two of you just sell that thing to the Cosa Nostra to tie to the legs of their next assassination victim before sliding him over the side, and go into business fabricating fake Shibuki minnows--kind of like the fake Corkys that are showing up everywhere. I have no doubt the infernal things are covered by over 500 patents, but what the hell--you would be producing something you might actually have a use for. You could replace the current brochure language with something more fitting to your personalities, say:

"We designed these things for tuna fishing. Use them or lose them, but don't bother us with your *****ing. If you don't like our product, you can toss them overboard and jump in yourself."

Russ,

Have you ever given it thought that me and GS just might be neighbors living in our broken down trailers in a run down trailer park.

You seem to be obsessed with loosing those expensive swimbaits. I've lost three myself. That's a lot of money for a guy that needs to buy some tin and rivets to fix his roof leak on the double wide. Good thing were in a drought.

MrBill: Uh, yeah, I'm hip. Trailer park, my rosy red English arse. One thing you and GS obviously are not in a drought of is bullshit! And Kil actually never gets farther away from his shack on a creek in Tennessee where he wears a straw hat and overalls and the only thing he ever actually jigs up is a mess of black crappie!

Here is an easy solution without spening much money.

Kil: Are you going to bring along on the July trip your invention for using the rail?

Cool item.
I can see alot of uses for anybody that wants to dress up a cooler.
Head boats, flats boat, bay boat or surf fishing.
I like that when they are not used they can be stored.

They say: No Screws, No Drilling, No Hassle.

I say: No drilling, no screws equal major rod and reel damage.

Have you ever seen what happens to rod holders that aren't secured by either welding, screwing or thru bolting?
Have you ever seen what happens to those plastic injection rod holders on a rough day?
Have you ever used a rachet strap on a slippery cooler that is tapered?

It looks like a great idea for a bass or bay fisherman with very light tackle.
I'm not putting my equipment in plastic rod holders. Been there, done that!!!
