Which version is better US or Jap?

If you're in US, I would buy US version to get Shimano warranty on it. It's an expensive reel to have no warranty in US.

Besides the knob and the color of anodizing, I would have to think it's the same reel. I don't think either one comes with a second spool. On the FA's (up to mid 2008) the Japanese's version gave you a spare spool. One thing to consider is the US version can be serviced without any problems here in the US if needed.
