Spooling a spin with braid?

Submited By tracker12 tracker12 is offline
I picked up a stradic 8000 and want to spool it with a braid. Never did a reel for bigger game. How do you all spool it. I want to use 50# braid and a 10 yard top shot. Do you all do it youself or take it to a shop.

It's ashame that smells can't be transmitted though the internet. Those green croc's have a smell imbedded to them that cannot be removed.

Some people sweat. Some don't. There are also those who sweat so bad that it runs down their legs into their shoes. When the shoes fill up with sweat it eventually penetrates to the middle core of the shoe and remains there until they are discarded. Sweating combined with basic feet odor and dead skin, can produce a rather unpleasant odor. If that same person doesn't move for a period of time, he will leave a puddle of odor which can even stain the best gelcoating.

Well, I guess we can now tell who (between MrBill and Gunsmoke, at least) who has the superior line-spooling methodology--since GS is making a collateral attack rather than pimping his own over-the-top-super-system. So we may end up on this trip with some of the best offshore fishermen in the nation--and a stinking stain on the gelcoat.

This is another tool I found for spooling. Looks interesting.

Guys, I cannot stress enought that the spectra needs to come off at least once per year for cleaning and treatment of the spool with some type of anti-corrosion lubricant. I would hate to have corrosion on the bottom of my Stella.....

When I spent half the year in Florida each year and fished six days a week during that entire time, I only washed the spectra once a year. If you are going to fish that kind of frequency, once a year is decidedly NOT enough. Yes, I know what corrosion looks like on a Stella spool - or whole Accurates corroding apart (anyone know why Accurates corrode more than ANY other reel out there??)

Now that I spend more time flying to fishing destinations rather than running my own boat, I use those Swifty spools and wash after every trip. I put either Boeshield or SuperLube on the spool prior to loading the line back on and am much happier now that salt isn't eating away at $200 spools

Mark, may be it has something to do with the F18 Super Hornet they have on their web site
As far as spooling, I would spray some lube, wipe it off, wrap a layer of teflon and then apply the braid via the "red neck" method using just the bottom part of my surf rod.

buy and old 10/0 Penn and use a powerdrill to wind the spectra onto it... then adjust the drag to where you want it and attach to the spinning reel. I dont use mono on my spools on offshore reels.... what happens if you get down to that 5 feet of mono... it pops as opposed to you MIGHT have the chance to hold the beast at bay if it was straight spectra( spool has to have vetwrap or soem type of tape on it to keep the spectra from slipping).

back to the old penn winder with powertool... you could use this to also wash your line after the trips... you could mount the reel on a rod and hold the tip in a big bucket of freshwater and leave the hose in it(turned on) so the lines getting a good flush of freshwater
