SHIMANO SPHEROS 14000 ANTI REVERSE & END PLAY

With the drag at a normal setting the spool on my 14000 has a lot of axial play. I took the reel apart to check it out and can find nothing obvious. Is this common for this reel or am I overlooking something?

While I'v got the reel apart I am wondering whether I can remove the anti-reverse lever. I find that I never use it and occasionally it gets into the free position and the results are usually disasterous.

Help / advise would be appreciated.

About all I can say here is that mine doesn't. So I'm not much help.
