I need to get one reel for jigging, and another for baiting for tuna fishing.
Please recommend me your choices. I would spend $400 or more for each one. Thank you. ![]() |

I reccomend, 1st.) DRAG POWER= Line tests & type of fish, big/small etc.
2nd) Line capacity, well do you want a big spool or lite weight, NARROW is best if it holds long enorh yards. then price, durability, looks.

All of my recommendations are for Texas head boats:
For chunking, I'd chose from the following: Shimano Tiagra 16A Shimano Tiagra 30A Penn 16VSX Penn 30VSX Alutecnos 30 2spd Accurate ATD 12 You can't go wrong with any of these, and the 30 size (+ the accurate) can also bottom fish for large AJ's and Grouper. For Jigging: Shimano Trini 40N Accurate 665N Accurate 665NN Shimano Stella 8k Shimano Stella 20k Diawa Saltiga 6500EXP Alutecnos Gorilla 12 I'd say as a general rule, if you want a conventional for speed jigging, get a narrow spool. This will depend on your preference for conventionals vs. spinners. Honestly, we're lucky to have the choices we do. There are so many good reel manufacturers out there, that if you spend the money, it's hard to go terribly off course. Hell, I didn't even mention Avets, and they make a very usable reel. If I had to recommend just 2, I'd say a Shimano Tiagra 30A for chunk and bottom (16A for just chunk) and an Accurate 665NN for jigging.
