My casting reel

Submited By JerseyBrian JerseyBrian is online now

Brand: Shimano   Model: Twin Power 8000HG   Types: Spinning
I bit the bullet.

Couldn't afford a Stella so hope this will last me for this year's BFT season in MA as well as the next 3 years in the caribbean

The drag knob has a unique feature that I've never seen before. It has a silicon type of built-in gasket on the underside of the drag knob; my guess is to help prevent the entrance of saltwater and sand.

Can't decide whether to spool with PE4 or PE5.

Comes with a nice Shimano Black Bag and Spool band

Rich, BFT season couldn't come any sooner! However, the drag knob seems to be very slow and "heavy" to turn. I'm guess this is because of that Silicon gasket on the bottom of the drag knob...can anybody confirm? I'm going to APS again at some point this month so I'll bring it over for them to inspect it.

Curious......why did you go with the twinpower over another Sargosa?

Well, who's to say that I'm not getting a Saragosa for my secondary reel? I'd like to have two reels for both jigging and casting. The Saragosa 18000 will be primary jigging reel as the Twin Power will be my primary casting reel. I will be getting a Saragosa 8000 for my secondary jigging and casting reel that would be mounted on my lighter jigging or casting rod.

The reason I picked the Twin Power as my primary casting reel was:

1) Amongst 8000 series reels, it has one of the highest gear ratio of 5.7:1
2) Amongst 8000 series reels, it has one of the highest line capacities
3) Amongst 8000 series reels, it can produce one of the higher drags (even though I'll only set it to low-mid 20s, it's good to know I won't be maxing out the drag) at 33lbs
4) Against the Saragosa 8000F reel, it is more proven.

That's why it's the lead-off hitter and the Saragosa is on deck in my book.
