Fin Nor OFS95 - The Breaking Point

Submited By shanker shanker is offline
Alright guys, I opened up my Busted Fin Nor OFS95, the main gear broke, all the way around where it mounds to the reel handle.

I have taken some really good High-Res pics but left my Digi-Cam pic at work, I will get it tomorow.

The gear broke because it is CAST! NOT MACHINED! Fin-Nor needs to correct this issue ASAP, if they are expecting people to fish these reels with heavy drags, the gears need to be able to support the drag capabilities as well.

dont worry heavy toolz your fin-nors should hold up quite well as i have both the 75 andf 95 and let me tell you the have been well tested. caught wahoo and tuna will soon start posting pics and vids for all the doubters.by the way i have been on sites and heard saltigas breaking at the reel foot and stellas exploding and i hear no one commenting.life is a lesson u cant take one reel with a broken gear and sum up a whole company

i am very upset when guys who swaer by shimano do this as i have owned a couple of shimanos and yes they are nice reels but i had a spheros 14000fa and after two weeks of light salt use the spool corroded awfully.i thought i was the only one with that prob then a friend who has one should me his also brand new with the same prob .to make matters even worse i spoke to different people online with ths same prob.then there is the issue fo maintenance if you are not technically inclined dont even touch them. for the same money you get a reel that anyone can work on without hiccups

ps now guys remember that i am not affiliated to any reel company i am just an avid angler for the island of jamaica who has used fin-nors product to boat fish that otherwise would seem unboatble unless using barrel type reels.just a riminder i have caught wahoo and tuna with my fin-nors my most recent catch was a kingfish in the 40lb region so i hope my little two cents will clarify what i think fin-nors product is all about.

Fish On,

Not to rub it in, but here's a picture of a Man among boys.

i was at bass pro today and has a chance to fiddle with the OF95 and have to say I was not the least bit impressed. It's way too heavy and didn't seem well built on the inside. imo, i'd rather get an accurate if I was going for a reel that's built like a brick outhouse. i know they're really expensive but they will hold up.

I'm pretty sure you should'nt compare a 900 dollar spinning reeling to a 170 dollar spinning reel. On that note Accurates have had their fair share of issues with the twinspins. Don't get my wrong I'm not defending the Fin-Nor I have a OS75 and it is indeed clunky and heavy. But for 150 bucks it works great for throwing chunks of bait up into rig legs for Mangrove snapper.

Is that power pro???

I like the split rings for fast lure changes.

Just an observation.

hi again. are you shure you found die cast main gears in your ofs? fin-nor claims that it`s all stainless steel in there. nevertheless, i`m not shure what to think about this, after i saw the pics.

anybody there who knows where to find the list of serial numbers of the bad ones??

Mr. Bill
Your right I had no bizz placing my Ahab 20 or OS 95 next to your Bling.
LOL...

But I will continue to search for fish to stress them. If and when I blow one of them up I'll let everybody know.. But until then they will continue to be used as some of my casting rigs.

Kev.

I think to be drilling the main gear is not an exercise in good engineering. How much weight will you save?
To do so close the main shaft is even more suicidal when you have a reel that apparently puts out 60lbs of drag and will be fished with heavy braid. A fix will probably be to forget the drilled main gear and if it is to be used for popping get a faster gear ratio.
