Evergreen OPUS 1 Spinning Reel |
|
|
|
Has anyone ever fished a OPUS 1 spinning reel by Evergreen?
It was the winner of JAPANS prestigious PRODUCT DESIGN AWARD and GOOD DESIGN AWARD. It is designed for saltwater fishing. The reel comes in an aluminum case with spare spool and tools. It's a rather small reel about the size of a Stella 3000. It's also expensive if you can find one in the US. $750-$900. Specifications : 5.2:1 gear ratio 10 ball and 1 roller line capacities: 8 LB/ 170 m, 10 LB / 150 m, 12 LB / 120m Max Drag : 3 KG weight : 260 grams Here is a link to Evergreens site. I'm surprised how many South Paws are fisherman. I didn't buy this reel. I was just curious if anyone had seen one. It's rather expensive for such a little reel. I'd take a Stella 3000 over it in a second if I wanted a bait reel. Now, I might just buy the new Zeebaas ZX3 when it comes out in September. It will be the largest spinning reel on the market. The ZX3 will come with a (4.25:1 gear ratio). You can buy spool sizes of 2.6" 2.8" and 3.15" diameter. I will probably only buy it if it comes in a bail model. I'm just not used to those non- bail models like the Van Staals. Some people swear by the non- bail models. I'm just not comfortable with them. |

You don't have to know me to harass me. Go for it. I can take it. I also like to dish it out so let's have some fun. Let me have it. I'll start first. Since your screen name is Bellyup, do I assume you like to Belly Up to the bar? Last edited by MrBill : 07-30-2007 at 06:48 PM. |

Mr. Bill,
We got to get a look at a Stella 8000 on the OTI 7.5 ft. 50lb spinner. Very light and sufficient drag to fight most fish. It was a very sweet rig....I bet you could cast the crap out of the poppers with that setup. |

I've never wanted a spinner to fish offshore with, but the 8000 on the 7.5, 50lb rod had a very nice feel too it, very balanced and pretty light. I think I could cast that one all night and get some serious distance with it. Plenty of power to stop the 100lb YFT and still light enough to cast for Dorado, Ling, Kings and AJ's.
Someone mentioned that in testing it was able to cast a 4 ounce popper some 92 yards. That's a popper setup worth having! There is still a long wait until the rod hits the market, but when it does, I'll be getting one. Tom - DBG |
