Boss 870 VS Avet LX/JX |
|

What does everyone think about the Accurate B2-870 vs. the Avet Lx/JX 2 speed?
I am wondering if the preformance warrants the price difference? THose of you who have fished both... |

I have the JX-2 speed and I like it well enough, but I've also fished the 870 2-speed and it is a much better reel as far as smoothness and total available drag.
Since I use my JX for jigging, I'll tell you that my only problem with it is that it doesn't have the anti-reverse bearing so you get a little bit of slap during fast jigging, but I can live with it. I do like the overall size of the JX better, seems narrower and lighter. Works great on Yellowfin in open water, but does not have the cojones to handle BIG AJ next to a rig. But I'll be spooling up an HX with spectra tomorrow for next time out. Tom - DBG |

FishorDie,
Thanks for your post that was the kind of comment I was looking for. Its easy to get smartass comments from fishermen as I am ussually one of the ones giving them. Tom, Thanks fo the input. I am going with Avet soley because I think I will end up witha spinner before the trip. I also like the setup of the reel... |

SpecialK,
I think the last post I have to agree with. I have the accurate 870 2 speed. Its a beast no doubt. I dont care for the width of the spool for jigging. We have a lot of guys swearing by the ocea or trini 40N or 16N. Think about that. The JX is much narrowr and easier to handle to me in that respect. As far as refinement Avet misses the mark over and over again. Avet refuses to put a damn anti reverse bearing because they say it will bind up the reel. Well news flash, at 15 lb of drag my reel binds up anyways. POint being. for nearshore jigging a JX is fine for up to 50 - 60lb braid. Prob a good choice. For tougher stuff you definitly have to step up to HX. If you want a all around reel forget the JX and go for the accurate hands down. As far as power the accurate again has bigger better gears. The spool is just too wide, now if they made a 870 and 655 narrow in 2 speed. well then I would be broke. ![]() |
