Boss 870 VS Avet LX/JX |
|
|
|
What does everyone think about the Accurate B2-870 vs. the Avet Lx/JX 2 speed?
I am wondering if the preformance warrants the price difference? THose of you who have fished both... |

Well i think I made the decision for myself but thanks guys. I read an article late last enight that said the accurate, while it is an amazingly smooth reel, does not cast worth a shat. I think I am going to get the avet and play with it. If I dont't think it will cast well I can put the money I saved instead of buying the accurate toward a spinner...

not to be an ass, but you had three guys that fished both tell you accurate is better. One more thing as far as casting. If you can cast right a conventional will outcast a spinner any day of the week. I dont own either, but if money is not an issue go with accurate. |

The accurate Boss's cast very well with the cast control on the left sideplate.
Here's a quote from GS that I heard over and over last year. "I can throw an Avet farther than I can cast one". This was right before he tossed a purple avet that hit an oil rig leg. He repeated the quote all afternoon. It was about 40 yards from the boat. That purple reel left a little mark on the rig. So, if you love Avet's, just look for the purple scratch on a rig leg and get out your scuba gear. |

I have both. Hands down, the accurate is smoother and more powerful. IT simply is built better. It also casts very well.
Don't get me wrong--the Avet is a fine reel. I have caught a ton of fish on it. It casts unbelievably well--in fact some have issues with it because the free spool is so good. Here would be my question--what pound test will be using on the reel and what drag settings do you need. If you ware really going to be pushing the reel to 15lbs of drag on a consistatn basis, go with the Accurate. If you are using 30-40lb test mostly and maxing out at 12-14lbs of drag, go with the Avet. Honestly, you can't make a bad choice here. LT |

Yo SK,
One truth about fishing is you will get as many different answers to questions as there are fishermen. Its up to you to answer for yourself. But to set the record straight about the Accurate 870 2 speed, from this fisherman who has 5 of them and almost only throws jigs, The 870 is a dream to cast. Although mine have the cast control I never use it as I LOVE free spinning reels. I toss jigs from 75 to 200 grams. Both reels you mentioned are wonderful reels but the Avet will not handle the same test lines or give you the same amount of smooth drag as the Boss. Both will handle 40 pound but to me that is where the Avet max's out. Others will tell you the AVet will fish 50# or more but not at the drag settings I use. The boss continues to have perfect free spool and the Avet starts to loose it when fishing 50# or more. The Boss will handle 60# or even 80# though capacity becomes a problem. I have said this a million times, with the new free spinning reels the angler must use proper casting techniques or they will over spin causing bird's nests. Those folks who are used to throwing spinners may hate these newer reels as they use a different stroke. For those of us who have thrown conventionals for years we welcome these new super spinning reels and would not consider slowing them down. Both reels are wonderful for 40#, however the Accurate is my personal choice as the best all around reel for that size. Best of luck with your new reel Jamie |
